LIHU‘E — Wednesday was scheduled to be the opening date for Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation girls soccer.
But the lingering Kona low pressure north of Kaua‘i changed that when the contest between Kapa‘a High School girls soccer hosting Kaua‘i High School was, according to Kapa‘a High School athletic director Greg Gonsalves, postponed to Thursday due to wet field conditions at the Bryan J. Baptiste Sports Complex.
As one contest was postponed, the skies over the western side of Kaua‘i broke for a window that allowed Island School girls soccer to score a second-half goal and edge Waimea High School, 2-1 at Hanapepe Stadium.
Voyager scorers included McKenna Kerry, and Lily Keller.
Waimea got its mark from Kendra Knapp, a returning strong forward from last year.
The next KIF girls soccer games take place on Saturday when Kapa‘a travels to Hanapepe Stadium to meet the Menehune wahine at a 10 a.m. start. Kaua‘i High School will meet the season opening winner Voyager ladies at the Island School field at a 4 p.m. start.
The varsity boys soccer starts on Tuesday when Waimea boys come to Vidinha Stadium to meet the Red Raiders in a 4 p.m. start. Island School will travel to the Bryan J. Baptiste Sports Complex to face Kapa‘a, also with a 4 p.m. start.
