HANAPEPE — A brush fire torched approximately 10 acres of private land near Salt Pond Beach Park on Saturday evening, authorities said.
Multiple firefighting personnel from the Hanapepe and Kalaheo stations responded around 6:45 p.m. to the scene of the brush fire, which was located on property owned by Gay &Robinson.
“Hanapepe firefighters were fire on-scene, where they found a ring of burning brush approximately 75 feet in diameter,” the Kaua‘i Fire Department (KFD) said on Sunday.
“Due to the location of the fire, firefighters extended their hose lines and shuttled water from engine to engine. Engine 5 pumped its tank into Engine 6 and refilled three times during the response.”
Firefighters were able to soon gain control of the brush fire after heavy equipment operated by Gay &Robinson personnel arrived at the scene.
“With assistance from Gay &Robinson personnel utilizing a water tender and grader, firefighters fully extinguished the fire, which left approximately 10 acres scorched,” the KFD said.
The scene was cleared shortly after 9 p.m. No road closures were reported during the fire, which is under investigation. No injuries were reported. No structures were threatened.
