Sweet potato bread?
Becky Komaki said one of the westside farmers growing sweet potatoes had a recipe so she’s trying it out, having loaves of sweet potato bread alongside banana bread and other goodies (kalua pig wrap?) during the Kaua‘i Handworks craft fair that moved from the Elsie Wilcox Elementary School cafeteria to Kaua‘i Veterans Center (Becky, Aida Cruz, Debra Ventura, and even Crystal Cruz were teasing the Kaua‘i Independent Food Bank food distributors with those batches of cookies, and how about them Energy Bars using Trader Joe’s Cookie Butter instead of Peanut Butter. Aida said the Kaua‘i Veterans Center will have another craft fair on Nov. 25 from 9 a.m. with more than 40 vendors.
Kudos to Gail Konishi for pulling together more than two dozen vendors, including the Joe Pimental ‘ohana (mother, cousin, sister, and who?) who had more than one table. Joe, who lost is arm in an auto accident, just started doing wooden (all wood from Kaua‘i) bracelets that Gail said are really nice. Joe’s mom said a neighbor welded together some stuff that would allow Joe to use the lathe to create the jewelry.
Carol Yotsuda (isn’t she one of the charter Kaua‘i Handworks vendors?) had daughter Geri (she’s from O‘ahu) selling Boro Boro Boutique items to help a mosaic artist (Carol said the artist will be at Grove Farm Market on Dec. 2 for the craft fair).
Laurie Ho of the Kaua‘i County Farm Bureau (yes, she was one of the shoppers!) said Pau Hana Market will be celebrating its third anniversary on Monday by working with Robbie Melton of the Small Business Development Center and will be one of the first to distribute Shop Small Saturday items when the market opens at 3 p.m. at Kukui Grove Center.
