HONOLULU — Kapa‘a High School girls volleyball, seeded No. 5 in Division II play, picked up seven kills apiece from Carlyn Rapozo-Kamoku and middle Olivia Malafu against Hawai‘i Baptist Academy (HBA) to open the New City Nissan Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association Division II girls state championship tournament at Kalani High School on O‘ahu on Tuesday.
HONOLULU — Kapa‘a High School girls volleyball, seeded No. 5 in Division II play, picked up seven kills apiece from Carlyn Rapozo-Kamoku and middle Olivia Malafu against Hawai‘i Baptist Academy (HBA) to open the New City Nissan Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association Division II girls state championship tournament at Kalani High School on O‘ahu on Tuesday.
The effort from the pair of Lady Warrior hammers came up short, as HBA out-whacked the Warriors with 40 kills to Kapa‘a’s 18. HBA hammers were led by Marisa Nakata slamming 18 kills and Caitlin Wong adding another 13 whacks.
HBA finished the outing by downing the Warriors in three sets — 25-17, 25-14, and 25-18 — pushing Kapa‘a to meet up with Waipahu High School on Wednesday in the tournament, where Mid Pacific Institute earned top seeding honors.
No. 2 seed is Waialua High School, Seabury Hall gets the No. 3 seed and Hawai‘i Preparatory Academy is the No. 4 seed, and will play HBA on Wednesday afternoon at Kalani High School.
The championship game for Division II takes place on Friday at the Cannon Activities Center on the Brigham Young University campus.
