WAILUA — Tiebreakers were involved in two of the individual flights during the recent Kaua‘i Golf Association tournament contested at Wailua Golf Course.
The tiebreaker involved matching net scores starting from the 11th hole.
Scott Akana and Gene Matsuda finished the B Flight tied at 67. Akana got the nod for first place via the tiebreaker.
In the A Flight, Stephen Brown and Ricky Gampon finished tied at 68, and Brown claimed first place honors based on the tiebreaker.
Additionally, Keith Yamamoto, Mike Oride, and Ty Tsukayama finished in a three-way tie at 71 for fourth place in the A Flight, the tiebreaker being called on to determine fourth through sixth places.
Similarly, Hawk Kawaihalau, Owen Ota, Howard Uohara and Bob Ahana finished at 73 in a four-way tie for fourth place in the B Flight. The tiebreaker was put into play to determine the final fourth through seventh places in the flight.
Sheane Mandrigues, finishing the tournament three strokes better than Dee Morikawa, won the Women’s Flight outright with a 73, and the Thursday Golf Club took the team competition outright with a combined 279.
