Ronald Charles Britton

Ronald Charles Britton, 66, handsome haole husband, dedicated father, reliable dear friend, and best-ever Kaua‘i plumber passed away on Oct. 22, 2023. His health declined over recent years and his life on earth was taken during a car accident. Ronald was one of the safest drivers on this planet always taking care more than traffic laws. He taught our family to always drive slower than speed limits through neighborhoods. Always considering others, especially children at play. He experienced a medical condition that led to the car accident on Kaumuali‘i highway while on his way to pick up his wife, Lovey Britton at the airport.
Ronald is survived by his wife Lovey Britton, of Nänäkuli, O‘ahu, son Brandon Britton, of ‘Öma‘o, Kaua’i, daughter and son-in-law, Norah and Garrett Lyman of Port Orchard, Washington and ‘Öma‘o, Kaua‘i, three grandchildren, Waika, Iokepa, and Lä‘ie‘ikawai Lyman of Portland, Oregon and Herzliya, Israel. Ronald also has two sisters and their spouses, Patricia and Karl Rohlfing of Haiku, Maui and Cheryl and Robert Stewart of Home, Washington, with children and grandchildren in Washington and Oregon.
Ronald joins his deceased mother and father, Leonard and Sally Britton. Ronald adored his parents and they adored him. After bringing their family to Koloa, Kaua‘i from Waukegan, Illinois in 1963. At the age of 5, Ronald lived every bit of his life with the island of Kaua‘i as his backyard. He was a fisherman, surfer, tree climber, and forager searching for what he knew one day would be antiquity and valuable. From Koloa Elementary to Kaua‘i High School, from UH Manoa to Grayline, and with the help of his dad, Ronald ultimately landed his career in plumbing, where he started-up and ran a successful plumbing company called Kaua‘i Solar Energy.
After the 2007-2009 Recession and loss of his parents in 2010, Ronald’s business and livelihood started to take a turn. He became ill in 2017 and hospitalized with medical issues. But still, he was determined to be healthy again. Unfortunately, his body slowly, slowed down. His determination to be healthy was fueled by the incoming of his first grandchild, Waika in 2017. He was able to outlast his declining health with 2 more grandchildren, Kepa and La‘ie, five years later. During this extended 5 years of life, he worked with the State Department and PMRF as their Plumber. He finally accepted working for someone else and quickly learned the joy of helping others of different backgrounds in life. He also taught plumbing courses at Kaua‘i Community College where his mother, Sally, also taught nursing. He looked forward to following his children’s world adventures by tagging along on MarcoPolo, Instagram, and daily video chat calls. Finally, he attended church almost weekly with Lovey and made the final years of his life full of Grace with her.
Ronald was a generous man, giving wherever he could in love and deed. His inquisitive presence, intellect, and humor will be deeply missed by so many who knew and saw him in his everyday routines to handle business directly in-person.
Ronald’s funeral will be on Nov. 11, 2023, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Kalaheo Ward. Visiting at 8:30 a.m. and Service at 10 a.m. Lunch to follow.
Ronald’s family requests prayers as a condolence. As a family of faith, prayers are the most powerful and effective for healing and moving forward with the pure love of our living Savior, Jesus Christ, and loving Heavenly Parents.

Dr. Jon Stephen Van Cleave
Dr. Jon Stephen Van Cleave passed away on Oct. 17, 2023, in Wailuku, Maui, Hawai‘i. He was born June 11, 1948, in Des Moines, Iowa.
He is survived by ex-wife Sherry Van Cleave and son Bryan Van Cleave.
Dr. Jon’s life’s purpose was to save the world. For the last 22 years Loya Whitmer, LMT, was standing beside Jon.
Dr. Jon was an Allergist & Immunologist, Class of 1975. Hawai‘i State License 1990 to 2022.
Dr. Jon was an inspiring inventor! He brought in from the Universe DATA to keep mankind and animals healthy as long as one wants to LIVE:
Dr. Jon created essential oils to prevent any airborne VIRUS!
Dr. Jon created essential oils for males called Virillium to be highest self. Also, Dr. Jon created essential oils for females.
He studied in depth Nicola Tesla and discovered the electrical/magnetic energy can be used for our bodies too. Dr. Jon was also an author. His pen name was Jon Vincent. Book: “Sniffles, the Dog with An Enormous Nose”

Waldemar John Contrades Sr.
Waldemar John Contrades Sr. passed away peacefully at his home in Anahola on Oct. 14, 2023, at the age of 91. He was born in Lihu‘e on Nov. 7, 1931, and retired from Citizens Utilities where he worked as a Lineman.
He was preceded in death by his parents Peter and Ruby Contrades, sister Myrtle (Frank) Napoleon, brothers Peter (Anita) Contrades, Ervin (Mercy) Contrades, sister-in-law Emmaleen Contrades, great-grandsons Keanu Saito, Kendrick Fejeder and great-great-granddaughter Naleiha Sanay-Wong.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Patsy Contrades, sons Waldemar Contrades Jr., Frederick Milton Contrades, daughters Leila (John) Kaneholani, Ruby (Floyd) Sugimura, Lola Rodriguez, brothers Daniel Contrades, Joseph (Betty Jane) Contrades, Lester (Richard) Contrades, sisters Imogene Richards, Alicia (Tony) Fernandez, 17 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of his life will be held Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2023, at Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary in Koloa. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., services to follow. Burial service will be held at the Kaua‘i Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe at 1 p.m. Casual aloha attire is suggested.
The family would like to extend their gratitude and mahalo to Veterans Administration, Bayada Home Care, Kaua‘i Hospice, and to all his caring physicians, for the excellent services they provided which allowed him to live a life of quality. Mahalo is also extended to Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary and the Office of Veterans Services for their assistance.
