Romualdo ‘Rhomy’ Bumanglag Basilio
Romualdo “Rhomy” Bumanglag Basilio passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family by his side on Oct. 10, 2023, at the age of 70. He was born on Feb. 14, 1953, in San Nicolas, Philippines. He worked at Kiahuna, Sheraton and Hyatt, Kaua‘i. He retired from McBryde and State of Hawai‘i, Judiciary. He also managed his own Janitorial Family Business.
He was preceded in death by his son Michael Basilio, his parents Eulalio and Alejandra Basilio, his in-laws Vincente and Eufemia Pablo, his brothers Cornelio (Clarita), Teofilo ((D) Salvacio), Felino (Dionicia), Florencio ((D)Milagros, Bonnie).
He is survived by his wife Marcelina “Cely” Basilio, daughter Rhocel (Keneke), granddaughter Gabrielle M. Basilio-Valdez, his brother Robert Sr. (Esther), his sisters Lucena (Agrifino) Bunsaan, Angela (Patrick) Tayamen, Caridad ((D) Victorino) Villanueva, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit the family on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2023, at Immaculate Conception Church. Visitation from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., service at 10 a.m., and burial will follow at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home.

Richard Hoapili Ka‘a‘a
Richard Hoapili Ka‘a‘a, 93, of Anahola, Kaua‘i, rode into his last sunset on Oct. 20, 2023, at Wilcox Medical Center in Lïhu‘e, Kaua‘i. He was born in Ma‘alaea, Maui, Hawai‘i to his parents, William Kauwe‘äina Ka‘a‘a, Sr. and Rose Kailimai Ka‘a‘a on Jan. 20, 1930. Richard retired from Otis Elevator as an Elevator Journeyman Mechanic.
He was predeceased by his parents, his oldest brother, William Kauwe‘äina Ka‘a‘a, Jr., his sister-in-law, Myrtle Kanakaole Ka‘a‘a, and his grandson, Francis Ka‘imipono Ka‘a‘a.
Richard is survived by his wife Maybelle (“Toni”) Ka‘a‘a, his brother Melvin Ka‘a‘a (Ornetta), his sister Melvyna Gomes, his sons and daughter from his first wife ‘Iwalani Briones, Manuel Ross (Sandy), Thomas Hoapili, Errol Glen, Mark Francis (Nälani), Clyde “Butch” (Marian) Ka‘a‘a, Glenette Heart (TJ), step-son Paul M.K. Ho‘okano, step-daughter Laurine K. Entendencia (Eddie, Jr.), 21 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, three step-grandsons, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Visitation: 9 to 11 a.m.; Service: 11 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2023, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Kapa‘a 2nd Ward, 4561 Ohia Street, Kapa’a Hawai‘i. Interment: 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2023, at the Veterans Cemetery, Makawao, Maui, Hawai‘i.
Clarence Keichi Higashi
Clarence Keichi Higashi, of ‘Ele‘ele, passed away on Oct. 22, 2023, at his residence at the age of 81. He was born on Oct. 26, 1941, in ‘Ele‘ele. He was retired from the State of Hawai‘i, Department of Accounting & General Services (DAGS).
He was preceded in death by parents Kumao and Matsuno Higashi and brother-in-law James Chen.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years Lilibeth of Lihu‘e, son Clesson H. (Liza) Higashi of Philadelphia, daughter Alison A. Higashi of Lihu‘e, brothers Robert (Kazue) Higashi of California, Dennis (Aileen) Higashi of Lihu‘e, sister Penelope Chen of Taiwan, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2023, at the Garden Island Mortuary in Lawa‘i. Visitation is from 9 to 10 a.m. followed by a celebration of life at 10 a.m.
The family requests casual attire and welcomes flowers.
