HANAPEPE — With just over six minutes showing on the game clock Kapa‘a Eagles’ 12 Under’s Randal Miyashiro scored on a 55-yard run to answer the Hanapepe Colts’ Chad Cabral’s 15-yard score that came with 6:55 showing at a Kaua‘i Pop Warner Football League game at Hanapepe Stadium on Sunday.
Miyashiro’s score kept the Eagles from being shut out ,as the final buzzer sounded on a 20-6 Hanapepe win fueled by three Chad Cabral touchdowns — an 8-yard run in the first quarter, a 47-yard breakout in the third quarter, and the 15-yarder in the fourth quarter that was enhanced with an extra point by Lana Prigge.
In other action, the Kekaha Titans picked up a 13-7 win in the 10 and Under game behind two second-half touchdowns by Kobe Malone. Brayden Balisacan-Ramos did the extra point honors following a third quarter 9-yard touchdown run by Malone.
Easton Hew of the Hanapepe Colts 10 Under started the ball rolling in the first quarter with a 3-yard push for touchdown that was enhanced with a Benzyn Numazu point after run. That score prevented a Titan shutout.
Kekaha also picked up a forfeit win over Lihu‘e in the 12 Under contest, and wrapped up a successful home stand with a 12-8 win over the Lihu‘e Patriots in the 14 Under contest that demonstrated the defensive posture of football.
The Patriots struck first when Zion Labanon plucked a Titan pass and ran it back 52 yards for the opening score that came with just 12 seconds peeled off the game clock. Mikemund Jose’s successful extra point kick provided the 8-0 Lihu‘e bulge.
Kekaha answered in the second quarter when Kepa Pablo pounced on a loose ball in the end zone. The point after attempt came up empty for the 8-6 Lihu‘e advantage that stood until the final quarter, when Titan Keanu Kua pulled in a 38-yard scoring pass with just 3:57 showing on the game. The extra point attempt failed for the 12-8 Kekaha advantage.
This Sunday, the Kaua‘i Pop Warner Football League contests take place at the Hanapepe Stadium with six games scheduled starting at 7 a.m.
Following five weeks of play, Kekaha No. 1 leads the Flag division with a 4-1 record challenged by Lihu‘e that holds 4 wins. Hanapepe No. 1 is 3-1, Hanapepe No. 2 is 1-3, Kapa‘a is 1-3 and Kekaha No. 2 is 0-5.
Lihu‘e has a 2-win, 1-tie standing over Kapa‘a (0-2-1) in the 9 Under division.
Hanapepe is 3-1 over Kekaha (1-3) in the 10 Under division.
Lihu‘e leads the 12 Under division with an undefeated 4-0 record, followed by Hanapepe (3-1), Kekaha (1-3), and Kapa‘a (0-4).
Kapa‘a is ahead in the 14 Under division with a 2-1 record, followed by Lihu‘e at 2-2. Kekaha is 1-2.
