LIHU‘E — Kaua‘i High School boys and girls bowling teams finished with the best rolls of the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation, Week No. 5 matches at Kaua‘i Bowl to earn KIF bowling titles.
Led by high games of 231 by Cody Nii, and 234 by Trestyn Reis, the Raider boys finished with a 2,456 pinfall over the 2,257 pinfall by Menehune and the 2,102 pinfall by the Warriors.
On the girls lanes, Yasmien Panoy soared to a 184 high game in the third game to combine with Mikayla Pacheco-Villanueva’s 177 high in the second game to lead the Raiders to a 2,140 pinfall and a win.
Kapa‘a girls challenged, but came up short following the first game where Skye Tadani rolled her team high 190. The Lady Warriors never recovered and settled for second place with a 1,899 pinfall, 72 pins ahead of Waimea’s girls at 1,827 pinfall.
“Congratulations to the Kaua‘i High boys and girls for taking the KIF titles,” said Kaua‘i High School bowling coach Kyrin Sasaki. “And, good luck to the Waimea and Kapa‘a athletes, who will be competing for an individual spot for the state tournament.”
The Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association Billy Tees Bowling 2023 Championships will be contested at Schofield Bowling Center on O‘ahu on Nov. 2-3.
The last KIF boys team to earn a state title was in 1995, when Kaua‘i boys took the crown under coach Sadamu Saiki. There has been no KIF girls team in the championship lineup since the HHSAA has been compiling records in 1974.
Coach Sasaki said the final week of competition on Oct. 19 will be “Senior Night.” There is no competition on Oct. 12 due to fall break.
