LIHU‘E — A homecoming parade and pep rally signaled the start of the high school homecoming season at Kukui Grove Center on Thursday,
Kaua‘i High School, which hosted the event, has the distinction of being the first of three high schools on Kaua‘i to celebrate its week of homecoming festivities and activities.
Kapa‘a High School will celebrate its homecoming with a football game against Waimea High School, which is scheduled to be broadcast live by OC16 television crews from the Bryan J. Baptiste Sports Complex.
Waimea High School will celebrate its homecoming the week after fall break with a football game against Kapa‘a High School at Hanapepe Stadium.
The Kukui Grove partnership with Kaua‘i High School is the only parade or pep rally being held at the shopping center for this year’s celebrations.
Savannah Hubbard was announced as the Kaua‘i High School Homecoming Queen, and football player Racen Pegeder was announced as the Kaua‘i High School Homecoming King during the parade that took place amid a special hot tub tent sale that occupied the shopping center’s designated parade staging area.
Several hundred people, primarily supporters of Kaua‘i High School and its network of community partners, filled the shopping center to greet parade participants, which included more than school organizations in a demonstration of the school’s “Together, We Can” homecoming theme.
Participating community partners included Elsie Wilcox Elementary School, whose performing arts students not only lit up the afternoon tranquility with its demonstration of streamers and synchronized movement, but also continued to spark life on the stage following the parade.
“This is a nice change for a Thursday night,” said Kukui Grove Manager David Sosner, who walked through the throngs of people, many sporting disposable beverage containers and to-go meal containers.
Some of the participating partners beyond Wilcox School included DMD Productions, which had its latest crop of beauty queens on-site, former Kaua‘i High School alumni classes and the Lihu‘e Patriots Pop Warner Football Association sporting new, rebranded Patriot uniforms and supporter wear.
The full roster of Kaua‘i High School’s homecoming royalty and the latest field of DMD Production royalty were not available.
