LIHU‘E — Led by Richard Palacio’s high score of 212 rolled in the second contest, the Waimea High School boys team broke the string of two straight victories by the Kaua‘i High School boys on Thursday at a Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation bowling series at Kaua‘i Bowl.
The Menehune men rolled a total 2,252 pinfall to take the Week No. 3 over Kaua‘i’s 2,126 pinfall, just 14 pins ahead of Kapa‘a boys who finished with a 2,112 pinfall.
According to Kaua‘i High School coach Kyrin Sasaki, Skye Tadani of the Kapa‘a High School girls team rolled the best score for girls at 183 in the first match of the night.
Despite that performance, the Kaua‘i High School girls took the series on Thursday behind the high score rolled by Mikayla Pacheco-Villanueva at 172 that came in her first rolls of the night. Kaua‘i High School girls, who took the last match over Kapa‘a girls in the season opener two weeks ago, finished Week No. 3 with a 2,028 pinfall.
Kapa‘a girls rolled below 2,000 to finish with 1,949 pinfall for second place, followed by Waimea girls with a 1,900 pinfall.
“Awesome job, again, to all bowlers,” said Coach Kye. “Congratulations to the Waimea boys and Kaua‘i girls for the Week No. 3 wins.”
The KIF bowling series continues on Thursday when Week No. 4 rolls at 4:30 p.m. at Kaua‘i Bowl.
