LIHU‘E — Hotels on the island of Kaua‘i posted the highest average daily rate of the year in July, as room prices continued to climb through the summer months.
The average daily rate was $459 in July, according to the Hawai‘i Hotel Performance Report published monthly by the Hawai‘i Tourism Authority. The average daily rate was up 2.2 percent from July 2022 and a staggering 52.3 percent from the pre-pandemic July 2019.
The previous high for the average daily rate was $434 in June. Of note, the average daily rate on Kaua‘i was around $400 every month this year until June and July took it to a whole other level.
The latest average daily room rate was also the second highest among the four major islands in Hawai‘i.
Hotels on Maui continued to bring in the big bucks with the average daily rate at $656 in July. That was down 5.1 percent from July 2022, but up a whopping 51.7 percent from July 2019.
Hotels on Hawai‘i Island were next up with an average daily rate of $442 in July. That was up 2.9 percent from July 2022 and a massive 66.7 percent from July 2019.
Hotels on O‘ahu continued to be the most affordable with an average daily rate of $306 in July. That was off 0.2 percent from July 2022, but up 17.1 percent from July 2019.
Results from the report were derived from a survey of 155 properties, which represented 47,489 rooms, or 84.6 percent of all lodging properties with 20 rooms or more in the Hawaiian Islands. That roster of properties included full service, limited service and condominium hotels.
The survey included 77 properties on O‘ahu, which represented 28,940 rooms or 95.2 percent; 40 properties on Maui, which represented 9,705 rooms or 69.8 percent; 18 properties on Hawai‘i Island, which represented 5,140 rooms or 73.4 percent; and 20 properties on Kaua‘i, which represented 3,704 rooms or 76.3 percent.
