LAHAINA, Hawai‘i — The death toll from the Lahaina Fire stood at 114 as of Saturday evening, nearly two weeks after the blaze tore through the town on the leeward side of Maui.
LAHAINA, Hawai‘i — The death toll from the Lahaina Fire stood at 114 as of Saturday evening, nearly two weeks after the blaze tore through the town on the leeward side of Maui.
The number of reported deaths comes with 85 percent of the disaster area having been searched, according to the County of Maui.
A total of six individuals have been identified. Their families have also been notified. A total of four other individuals have been identified, although their families have not been notified.
But that total is expected to climb significantly, as search and recovery crews continue to comb through the area.
The Lahaina Fire was 89 percent contained as of Saturday evening, with a total 2,170 acres burned.
