Annie Wahinekula (Apo) Lacro
Annie Wahinekula (Apo) Lacro, 74, of Waimea, passed away on Friday, June 30, 2023 at the Queen’s Medical Center on O‘ahu surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in Waimea, Kaua‘i, on Dec. 28, 1948.
She was a retired cafeteria helper at Waimea High School and a member of the Wai‘aka Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She was an avid Bible reader, loved to cook for family gatherings, enjoyed doing word search puzzles and watching cooking shows. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her precious grandchildren, and her beloved pet cuckatoo, Pearl.
Preceded in death by parents Samuel Apo Jr. and Katherine Makuaole Apo, brothers Bernard Makuaole Sr., Gary, Samuel, Alvin, Gilman, Darrell Apo and David Koani.
She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Julian Lacro of Waimea, daughters Myra (Adrian) Lacro Castaneda of Hilo, Jennifer (Frank) Lacro-Iwai and Maureen “Mahe” (Sam) Lacro Vegas of Kekaha, three grandchildren Kaena, Blake Micah and Häloa. The close knit bond of her siblings Kathy (Dennis) Eastman of California, Dal (Gordon) Tremaine of O‘ahu, Dani (Jim) Newman of Washington state, Sandra “Nani” (Henry) Silva of Hilo, Kaleo (Laverne) Apo of O‘ahu, Kaeo (Debbie) Apo of Hanapepe, Roy (Petra) Apo of Arizona, Clifford Apo of Waimea, Hartwell (Judy) Apo of Kalaheo, her aunt and mentor Grace Acain of Kekaha, sisters-in-law Margaret Lacro of Waimea, Esther Lacro of Kona, Diane Apo and Sandra Makuaole of Kekaha, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be held at a later date.
Carol Jean Robley
Carol Jean Robley, of Kalaheo, passed away on May 23, 2023, in her home at the age of 73. She was born on Sept. 24, 1949, in Lihu‘e, and retired from Kaua‘i Medical Clinic.
She was preceded in death by parents Philip and Antonia Robley and brother Robert Robley.
Carol is survived by brothers Philip (Janice) Robley, John (Lois) Robley, Melvin (Rosemary) Robley, sister Marjorie (Gordon) Arakaki, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, Aug. 19, 2023, at Holy Cross Church in Kalaheo. Visitation begins at 9 a.m., Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. Inurnment will follow at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens. The family requests no flowers, please.

Rachel Miyaji
Rachel Miyaji, of Lihu‘e, passed away on July 13, 2023, at home at the age of 84. She was born on Nov. 16, 1938, in Mexico. She was a housewife.
She was preceded in death by husband Jerry Miyaji, daughter Nadine Miyaji, parents, brother and sisters.
She is survived by daughters Sandra Scales of Lihu‘e, Jeri (Albert) Miyaji-Ventura of Lihu‘e, grandchildren Jaelene Ventura, Jaenell (Aaron) Imada, Albert Ventura, Jr., Alsen Ventura, great-grandchildren Kaeden Tam-Ventura, Kaesen Tam-Ventura, Kaezlyn Tam-Ventura, Kaezen Tam-Ventura, Qierryn Imada, Kiarie Ventura, sister Rose (Billy) Valencia of California, special niece Yvette (Russ) Wilson of California, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A private service was held.

Edimor ‘Eddie’ Tangonan Yago
Edimor “Eddie” Tangonan Yago, of Lihu‘e, passed away on July 16, 2023, at Wilcox Medical Center, at the age of 66. He was born in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte, Philippines on April 27, 1957. He was a landscaper and maintenance worker at Kaua‘i Nursery and Po‘ipu Bay Golf Course.
He was preceded in death by parents Antonino and Juliana Yago and brother Florante Yago.
He is survived by wife Olga Yago, sons Edgar (Michelle) Yago, Edmar (LeeAnna) Yago, daughters Kearsten (Henry) Jones, Edilynne Yago, grandchildren Christopher James “CJ” (Lynelle) Yago Martinez, Mark Anthony “MA” Yago Martinez, Xander Yago Martinez, Dominic Yago Jones, Carrie Joi Yago Jones, Elianna Jade Rapozo Yago, Peyton Rylee Rapozo Yago and great-grandchildren Christelle Jhene Yago Martinez, Chantelle Joy Yago Martinez.
Friends may visit with the family on Monday, Aug. 14, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lihu‘e. Visitation begins at 8:30 a.m. and Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m.

Kyong Ae ‘Kay’ Uyeno
Kyong Ae “Kay” Uyeno, of Koloa, passed away on July 22, 2023, at the age of 75. She was born in Seoul, South Korea, on June 18, 1948. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by brothers Min Shik and Min Young.
She is survived by husband Keith Uyeno, brothers Min Soo and Min Tae of New York, Seong Soo of South Korea, sisters Kyong Sook of South Korea, Kyong Cha of California, numerous nieces and nephews.
A private celebration of life will be held by the family. The family requests no koden (monetary gifts) and flowers be omitted.

Jose L. Bernades Sr.
Jose L. Bernades Sr. passed peacefully on June 14, 2023, at Wilcox Medical Center at the age of 87. He was born on July 14, 1935, in Koloa. He was an U.S. Army veteran, a retired supervisor at Lihu‘e Plantation Company, and owner of Bernades Welding.
He was preceded in death by parents Gregorio and Crisanta Bernades, sister Helen Batangan and brother-in-law Pete Batangan.
He is survived by wife Eden Lopez, brother Larry (Julie) Bernades, sisters Trinie and Jean Bernades, daughter Michel (Ed) Cummings, sons Jose Jr. (Renee) Bernades, Bryan (Rebekkah) Bernades, mother of his children Margaret Bernades, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit the family on Friday, Aug. 18, at Kaua‘i Veterans Center in Lihu‘e from 5 to 8 p.m.
A service is Saturday, Aug. 19, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Visitation for family is from 8:30 to 9 a.m. and 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. for friends, Mass celebrated at 10 a.m., and burial will follow at the Kaua‘i Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe at 1 p.m.

Joselyn Villa Collins, 57, passed away on July 14, 2023. She was born in Lihu‘e on Sept. 25, 1965, and formerly worked as an accountant for Gather Federal Credit Union.
She was a beloved wife, sister, aunty, cousin and friend.
She was preceded in passing by her parents Jose and Ramona Villa.
Joselyn is survived by her husband Scott Collins, sisters Lorenza Salud, Eliza (Miles) Koide, nieces Sylvia Salud-Rayno (Scotty), Anne Maichel (Scott), Alina Hyde (Roger), Janice Doty (Jeff), Sara Koide, nephew Shaun Koide, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Esperanza “Ansang” Tagatac, 91, of Kekaha, passed away at home in Kahului, Maui, on July 28, 2023. She was born on April 23, 1932, in Bangui, Ilocos Norte, Philippines. She was a retired housekeeper and seamstress.
She was preceded in death by husband Francisco, parents Anotolio and Damiana Nacapuy, brothers Mariano, Felimon (Juliana) and Limbanio, and son Bernardo (Rosamond).
She is survived by sons Erwin (Melinda), Rolando (Lemelyn), daughter Esther (Brant), grandchildren Franklin (Jamy), Mark, Hazel (Todd), Charms, Zachary, Brittany, Courtney, Erin, Zane, and great-grandchildren Taylor, Victoria.
Service is Monday, Aug. 21, 2023, at St. Theresa Catholic Church. Visitation is from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., Eulogy at 9:30 a.m., Mass at 10 a.m., and burial will follow at 11 a.m. The family requests that flowers be omitted.
