LIHU‘E — Hotels on the island of Kaua‘i reeled in some lofty room rates in June, doing more than their part to boost visitor spending in the 30-day period.
The average daily rate was $434 in June, according to the Hawai‘i Hotel Performance Report published monthly by the Hawai‘i Tourism Authority.
The daily rate was up 3.3 percent from June 2022 and a hefty 54.8 percent from pre-pandemic June 2019. The daily rate was also the highest in the six-month period ended June 30.
Of note, the average daily rate on Kaua‘i was around $400 every month this year until June.
The latest average daily room rate was also the second highest among the four major islands in Hawai‘i.
Hotels on Maui continued to fetch top dollar with an average daily rate of $623 in June. That was down 3.8 percent from June 2022, but up a stout 58.1 percent from June 2019.
Hotels on Hawai‘i Island ranked third with an average daily rate of $410. That was down 3.5 percent from June 2022, but up a staggering 64.8 percent from June 2019.
Hotels on O‘ahu were a bargain, by comparison, with an average daily rate of $291 in June. That was up 3.2 percent from June 2022 and 20 percent from June 2019.
Results from the report were derived from a survey of 154 properties, which represented 46,622 rooms, or 83.3 percent of all lodging properties with 20 rooms or more in the Hawaiian Islands. That roster of properties included full service, limited service, and condominium hotels.
The survey included 76 properties on O‘ahu, which represented 28,130 rooms or 92.5 percent; 41 properties on Maui, which represented 9,798 rooms or 70.6 percent; 17 properties on Hawai‘i Island, which represented 4,990 rooms or 72.8 percent; and 20 properties on Kaua‘i, which represented 3,704 rooms or 76.3 percent.
