Don’t forget, Saturday is the Back to School Bash when nearly 3,000 backpacks of school supplies — there’s more than 1,500 for elementary (kindergarten through Grade 5), and more than 1,200 backpacks for middle and high school (Grades 6 through 12) — will be given away … Melissa McFerrin-Warrack said there won’t be leftovers since all the backpacks that are unclaimed (preregistered students who forget to come) will be given away after the 2 p.m. closing.

Everyone is invited to earn prizes and giveaways during the Passport experience that’ll be happening throughout the shopping center, and of course, there’s entertainment like the Hawai‘i Children’s Theatre, the Aloha Dance Studio, Cruz Control and more to keep things hopping.
Kudos to Aida Cruz, retired general Mary Kay Hertog, and all the volunteers (Mary Kay said even Mayor Derek S.K. Kawakami rolled up his sleeves during some of the workdays) for opening the Kaua‘i Veterans Museum. Visitors to the museum are free (donations gladly welcomed) to view the museum from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Mondays through Fridays. And keep an eye open for volunteers continuing to work on completing the renovation work.
Also, how about Hurricane Calvin that’s churning out there about 2,000 miles away from us? Are you ready? Calvin is supposed to cross into the Central Pacific zone (that’s us) some time on Sunday (how about that Beach House Craft Fair? Shop early!) with the effects impacting us as early as Tuesday.
