KAPA‘A — The Kailua Majors All-Stars came from behind to take a 6-5 win over the Kaneohe Majors All-Stars on Friday to end the opening day of the Hawai‘i Little League District Tournament on a high note at Kawaihau Community Little League Main Diamond in the Bryan J. Baptiste Sports Complex.
Following three complete innings of baseball, Kailua trailed Kaneohe 3-0 before a Kaneohe pitching change.
With no outs in the fourth frame, Kailua capitalized on the pitching change to draw to a 3-3 tie when Rayden Kaleipu marked two-runs batted in with double, and a Max Gaspar play at the plate drove in Liam Scruggs, Kailua’s starting pitcher.
Kanehe took the lead in the fifth when its relief pitcher Kekoa Bretherton scored on a Resore-Williams hit.
Kailua wasn’t done, yet as Isaac Wickes answered to tie the contest, 4-4 on an RBI single with just one out. Kailua continued to have runners cross as Elijah Tucker and Wickes both scored on a wild pitch that had a Kaneohe miscue tied to it.
Kaneohe came back in a strong attempt, but was limited to just a solo home run by Vonn Tavares before Kailua took out the batters in order for the win.
The district tournament continues with two games on tap for Saturday. The first contest with Kaneohe will start at 10 a.m. The second contest with Kailua will start at noon at the main diamond.
The tournament continues until Monday when a district championship team is determined.
Following the Majors District Tournament, Kawaihau Community Little League will host the 50/70 State Tournament from July 7 through 10 at the PONY field at the Bryan J. Baptiste Sports Complex.
