LIHU‘E — A number of groups and government agencies are banding together to host a mental health and wellness conference next week at Kaua‘i War Memorial Convention Hall.
The two-day event, known as Ola Pono O Kaua‘i, will be held on June 7-8 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on both days, according to the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney’s Life’s Choices Kau‘ai Program.
“We are excited that this year we were able to expand the former Life’s Choices Drug Summit into a two-day event that focuses, not just on drug use and prevention, but also covers important topics on mental health and well-being, which are vital to the continued safety of Kaua‘i and our people,” said County of Kaua‘i Prosecuting Attorney Rebecca Like in a statement.
Life Choices is co-hosting the event in conjunction with the Hawai‘i Department of Health, Kaua‘i Rural Health Association, Kaua‘i Planning and Action Alliance, Kaua‘i Resilience Project and Keiki to Careers.
The event will feature presentations on cutting-edge practices by mental health industry leaders and elected officials. Information and resource tables will also be available, along with a job fair on June 8.
“Mental health resources are needed nationwide, but especially on Kaua‘i,” said Life’s Choices Coordinator Michael Miranda in a statement. “Not only are families unaware of the services and innovation happening on island, but we also need more psychologists, psychiatrists and other professionals to serve Kaua‘i and Ni‘ihau.”
Registration is required for the event, which is free and open to the public. To sign up for the event visit https://tgilinks.com/45qM0oS
