Carlen Leona (Miranda) Peralta
Carlen Leona (Miranda) Peralta, of ‘Ele‘ele, passed away on May 1, 2023, in Waimea at the age of 70. She was born on July 27, 1952, in O‘ahu. She was a waitress and seamstress.
She was preceded in death by father Leon Corrales Miranda, mother Avelina Torcuato Miranda, brother Arden Jay Miranda, sisters Glanis Miranda Slater and Wynne Arlene Miranda Akana.
She is survived by husband Wilfred “Bull” Peralta, sons Jarvin (Maia) Peralta, Leon Cory Miranda, daughters Tanya (Marvin) Peralta-Jardin, Chlorie Peralta (Sean) Igne, grandchildren Kelsie (Tiana) Igne-Samio, Stetson (Seanne) Igne, Alyssa and Colby Jardin, Jelacia and Jamie-Lee Peralta and Amanda and Amber Jardin, great-grandchildren Anuhea and Mohala Igne and Atlis and Adakis Igne-Samio and sisters Lauren (Romulado) Felipe and Cliti Shepherd.
A celebration of life is Saturday, June 10, 2023, at the Garden Island Mortuary in Lawa‘i. Visitation is from 9 to 11 a.m. followed by prayer services. A private inurnment will be held at a later date.

Keith Tsugio ‘Kuni’ Kunioka
Keith Tsugio “Kuni” Kunioka, of Wailua, flew with angels on March 11, 2023. He was born on Kaua‘i on Nov. 13, 1954. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army and retired TSA, USDA and Aloha Airlines employee.
He was preceded in passing by his honorable father Robert Kunioka and brother-in-law Ed Kunioka-Volz.
He is survived by his beloved wife Monica Kunioka, son Tyson Rabago, daughters Tiana (Ka‘eo) Lopez and Takara (Torren Kimura) Kunioka, mother Dorothy Kunioka, sisters Karen (Randy) Kawate, Sheri Kunioka-Volz, brother Scott Kunioka, cherished grandchildren Nevaeh Arruda-Kapu, Tyson Arruda-Rabago, Hina‘ea Alapa, Kanoa, Aria, Kiwahakai, Ka‘ana and Ka‘eoKai Lopez, Alina Kimura, and many loved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A celebration of life is at Kealia Pukas Ministries on June 10, starting at 10 a.m. with paddle-out to follow.
Bernard Duarte Sr.
Bernard Duarte Sr., 82, of Wailua, passed away on April 30, 2023, in Honolulu. He was born on July 25, 1940, in Lihu‘e. He was a retired fireman.
He was preceded in death by wife Cynthia Duarte, brother Dennis Kalaniopua Duarte, sister Gwendolyn Ho‘olu Duarte and stepson Anthony Waipa.
He is survived by siblings John Akoni Duarte, Libbie Kealoha Duarte Feroben, Jack Nishimoto, sons Bernard (Heidi) Duarte Jr., Jonathan Duarte, Brendan (Mahealani) Duarte, stepsons Cedrick Waipa, John Waipa I, John Waipa II, daughter Maile (Chad) Hamada and numerous grandchildren.
A celebration of life is Saturday, June 10, at Kapa‘a Neighborhood Center, starting at 11 a.m. The family requests casual attire.
Patrice Andra Thronas
Patrice Andra Thronas passed away on May 13, 2023, in Honolulu at the age of 61. She was born on June 21, 1961, in Hawai‘i. She was a housewife.
She was preceded in death by parents Andres and Patricia Arrisgado.
She is survived by husband Darryl Thronas, son Dalton (Vanessa) Thronas, daughter Arrisa Thronas, sisters Andree Ann (Sosefo Manu) Arrisgado, Andria (Terrance Mcgee) Johnson and granddaughter Keidence.
A celebration of life will be announced at a future date.

Scott A. Jarvis
My brother Scott passed away at home in Hanalei on May 27, after a brief illness. A long-time resident of Kaua‘i he was better known as SH (pronounced Saitch). He was 76 years old. SH was born in Brooklyn, New York, on June 14, 1947, to Milton and Erma Beck Jarvis.
SH was a gentle, modest man of many talents and interests. He traveled to 6 continents and traversed Central and South America on horseback. He invented the method of extracting moisture from noni fruit, a natural cure for many ailments and founded Noni Fruit Leather in Kaua‘i.
A master of the Hawaiian ‘ukulele he performed throughout the Hawaiian islands, often accompanying hula groups. He was an excellent wood craftsman and made many native Hawaiian drums that can be seen throughout the island.
SH was a knowledgeable herbalist and was sought for his knowledge of diverse plants and plant lore. He was a vegetarian and grew most of his food.
He lived a full and interesting life. SH had friends throughout the world who will miss his good humor, wisdom, and loyalty.
He is survived by his brother Lance (Marilyn) of Melbourne, Florida.
No services are planned.

Davin M. ‘Jabba’ Garcia
Davin M. “Jabba” Garcia, 56, of Hanama‘ulu, passed away on March 9, 2023. He was born in Lihu‘e on Oct. 12, 1966, and worked at Flying Food Group.
He was preceded in passing by parents Lucas and Lourdes (Nelmida) Garcia.
He is survived by sister Suzanne Kashima, brother Dominic (Sharlene) Garcia, sons Jordan Garcia, Luke Garcia and Joshua Garcia.
A celebration of life will be held at Niumalu Canoe Club (Kalapaki) on Saturday, June 10, starting at 11 a.m.

Evelyn Yukie Nakamura, of Kealia, passed away on May 28 2023, in Hale Kupuna Heritage Home at the age of 92. She was born on Dec. 7, 1930 in Lihu‘e. She was a retired housekeeper.
She was preceded in death by husband Toshio Nakamura and brother Dennis K. Dodo.
She is survived by sons Erwin (Florencia) Nakamura of Hanama‘ulu, Ken (Michele) Nakamura of Kealia, daughter Lori (Michael) Kiyabu of Kapa‘a, six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, sisters Josephine Dodo of Kealia, Eleanor (Tom) Kajiwara of Hanama‘ulu, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A private service will be held at a later date.

Dennis Sarita, 79, of Hanama‘ulu, passed away on April 15, 2023, at Wilcox Medical Center. He was born on March 18, 1944, in Lihu‘e. He worked at the State of Hawai‘i Lihu‘e Airport.
He was preceded in death by parents Gaudencio and Salome Sarita, brother Edward Sarita, sister Arlene Nemesek, nephew Andrew Sarita and brother-in-law Gary Yoshida.
He is survived by brother Stephen Sarita and sister Faye Yoshida.
A service is Saturday, June 10, at Immaculate Conception Church in Lihu‘e. Visitation begins at 9 a.m. followed by service at 10 a.m. The family requests casual attire.
Antonina ‘Nina’ Villapania Mirafuentes
Antonina “Nina” Villapania Mirafuentes, 91, of Honolulu, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2023. She was born in Lihu‘e and was a retired County of Kaua‘i employee after many years of dedicated service.
She was predeceased by husband Victor Mirafuentes.
She is survived by sons Rendall, Robert “Noi,” Judson, daughters Noreen, Rhonda, Apryle, Ninette, 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life service is Sunday, June 11, at the Kaua‘i Veterans Center in Lihu‘e, beginning at 2 p.m. The family requests aloha or casual attire.
