Leonora Manuel Longboy

Leonora Manuel Longboy, 84, passed April 30, 2023, in Natalia, Texas. She was born on May 29, 1938 in Lihu‘e, Kaua‘i, Hawai‘i, to parents, Cipriano and Mariana (Doctor) Manuel. She was also preceded by her husband Mariano Mamaclay Longboy, brother Benjamin Manuel Sr. and brother-in-law Bradley Erickson.

She is survived by her son Marvin and Ann Longboy of Barstow, Florida, daughter Laureen and Michael Gonzales of Natalia, Texas, son Mark Sr. and Kay Longboy of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, son Mario and Nadine Longboy of Lihu‘e, Hawai‘i, son Michael and Yolanda Longboy of Las Vegas, Nevada, sister Cresencia and Lino Badua of Honolulu, Hawai‘i, sister Priscilla Manuel Erickson of Aiea, Hawai‘i, sister-in-law Teresita Manuel of Cibolo, Texas, stepmother Presca Manuel and stepbrother Raymond and Daisy Morden of Lihu‘e, Hawai‘i, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great-great grandchild.

Leonora graduated from Kaua‘i High School in 1956. In 1957, her and Mariano wed and moved to O‘ahu. She was a devoted Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and a wonderful “Lela” to all. She also went by “Nora”, “Onor”, or just “Auntie” to friends and family. She retired in 1999 from Makalapa Elementary School as a Cafeteria Baker, and enjoyed her retirement years volunteering for her church, and visiting friends and family.

In 2017 she moved to Natalia, Texas, to live with her daughter, Laureen and family. She will forever be remembered as a loving and supportive person, always wanting to give a helping hand, and never afraid of hard work.

Service and viewing will be held at 9:30 a.m., and an Internment at 1 p.m., at Hawaiian Memorial Park Cemetery, 25 May 2023 in Kaneohe, Hawai‘i, where she will lay to rest with her late husband, Mariano Longboy.

Bernadette Leinaala Pi‘ikea Ka‘ohi Lancaster

Bernadette Leinaala Pi‘ikea Ka‘ohi Lancaster passed away peacefully in Yakima, Washington, after a brief, but courageous, fight with a rare form of blood cancer.

Bernadette, “Babe”, Bernie, Mom, Grandma was born on Sept. 17, 1940, in Hanapepe, Kaua‘i, Hawai‘i, to Joseph “Sonny” and Gloria (Souza) Ka‘ohi. Bernie attended Kamehameha boarding school following her brother Howard. After graduating Bernadette became the first of her family to attend college enrolling at Washington State College (now University) where she would meet her future husband Lowell Lancaster on a blind date while on a Christmas break in Yakima, Washington.

Married Dec. 26, 1959, at Holy Cross Church in Kalaheo, Kaua‘i, Hawai‘i, in front of her father’s 17 brothers and sisters and mother’s 7 brothers and sisters families. Bernadette and Lowell lived their entire 63 years of marriage in Selah, Washington.

Bernie was mother of five children Patricia Ann Pualani (d.1963), Debra Lehua Hanmer (David) of Selah, Douglas Howard Ka‘ohi Lancaster (Ruth) of Seattle, David Paul Kalua Lancaster (Robert Bagshaw), of Barnstable, Massachusetts, Craig Lowell Ka ho‘olina Lancaster (Kirsten) of Selah and grandmother of six much loved grandchildren Jessica, Joseph, Ivan, Lily, Elle and Maile.

Bernadette was preceded in death by her parents, brother Howard of Hawai‘i, daughter Patricia and in-laws Paul and Ada Lancaster.

She is lovingly survived by her husband of 63 years Lowell Ley Lancaster and their children, grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, aunties and uncles as well as dear friends.

There will be a memorial Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic church in Selah, Washington, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, any donations in her name can be directed to Holy Cross Catholic Church, Kalaheo, Kaua‘i, Hawai‘i.

Bernadette remains in the hearts and memories of us all and as a devout Catholic we embrace the knowledge she is raised in heaven as a continuing guiding voice.

William ‘Bill’ Wallace

William “Bill” Wallace, born on Feb. 8, 1947, in Washington, D.C., passed away peacefully in his Kalaheo home on May 2, 2023. The love of his life, Laurie Ventura Wallace, who he shared 32 wonderful years with, was by his side, along with his daughter and other family members.

They have 2 children, son Seth Eben Wallace, who resides in Olympia, Washington, and daughter Tashiana Ventura Canales (Levi), who resides in Hanapepe. He has three grandchildren, who are the joys of his soul, Kimberly Wallace, Ian Wallace and Rigel Canales.

Bill’s great joy was playing music here on Kaua‘i and in his earlier years, throughout the mainland. His greatest, greatest joy in life was jamming with his grandkids Rigel, Kim and Ian. Bill has been blessed with numerous family and friends from all around the world.

The family would like to thank Kaua‘i Hospice for the care and compassion they have given during this long fought illness.

At the request of Bill, there will be no public service or celebration of life. No donations please.

Alice Gomes Palmeira

Alice Gomes Palmeira went home to be with the Lord on March 29, 2023, at the age of 90, at home in Las Vegas. She was born on March 31, 1932, in Hanapepe. She worked in sales and customer service for Kaua‘i Stores and Liberty House, then retired with Macy’s Accommodations Department at Kukui Grove in Lihu‘e.

She is survived by children Alan (Sandy) Palmeira, Gary (Carol) Palmeira, Warren (Evelina) Palmeira and Adele Palmeira-Shinn, grandchildren Lloyd (Robyn) Palmeira, Matthew Palmeira, Wendy Palmeira, A.J. “Jennie” Palmeira, Jarrod Shinn, Shayonia Palmeira, Kysen Palmeira, Sheri (Justin) Malina, Ashley (Josh) Cramer, Julia (Larry) Palmeira and Jeanette Jaramillo, and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by parents Manuel Sr. and Albina Gomes, brother Manuel Gomes Jr., sisters Helen Jordan, Laura Duarte, Clara Jardin, Miriam Rita, Dorothy Rita, Margie Vidinha and Flora Duarte, grandson Wesley Palmeira and Ernest Palmeira.

To honor our mothers’ wishes, there will be no funeral service. However, her memory will be forever cherished in our hearts. Our family appreciates your thoughts and prayers during this time.

Bruce Gerrit Macey

Bruce Gerrit Macey, of Anahola, passed away on May 5, 2023, in Lihu‘e. He was born in San Clemente, California, on July 25, 1967, graduated from Cal Poly Pomona with degrees in Hotel Restaurant Management and Business, and worked as the director of Food and Beverage at the Westin Princeville.

He was preceded in passing by his parents Bruce and Carolyn Macey, brother Steve Condon, uncle and aunt Warren and Marilyn Ball, and cousin Kyle Ball.

Bruce is survived by his loving sisters Christian Macey, Lindsey (Ritchie) Cooper, nieces and nephews Nichole and Shelby Taylor, Forrest, Jennifer, Kennedy, and Peyton Crowell, Brittany, Brent, and Brayden Russell, Brianna Carlson, Nalu and Calleigh Paulisin, Erin and Mark Arroyo, cousins Kyrna Ball and Erik Ball and best friend Mikey McStay.

Gerrit was living his dream working at the beautiful Westin in Princeville. He passed doing exactly what he loved, serving his community. Gerrit was all about premiere service to all guests and fellow employees, no matter where he worked. He had multiple management opportunities over the years, including the Roy’s Restaurants here on Kaua‘i, Phoenix, Arizona and Newport Beach, California, ending his career at the beautiful Westin, Princeville which was the pinnacle of his career. Members of his Westin team were his Kaua‘i family and lovingly referred to him as “Mr. Aloha” and “Boss” with great affection. He was a Christian nearly all his life, loved serving the Lord and was even learning Hawaiian.

A private memorial services will be held in his honor.

Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Michelle Carey Penn

Michelle Carey Penn passed away April 11, 2023, to be with the Lord.

She is survived by her mother Joan Penn, sister Diane Penn, brother Joseph Penn, cousin Charles Wilder, loved by her nephew and nieces John Penn, Christine Brauel, Danielle Brauel and Jamee Penn, adored by her great nephews and nieces Titus Pomele, Aurora Brown, Nanea Brown, Kaili Brown, Ambree Alip‘i and Trutus Brauel.

She was a radiant beam of aloha!
