LIHU‘E — Kaua‘i High’s boys baseball team improved to 10-1 following its double-header win over Waimea High on Friday, April 14, 2023, during the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation games at Vidinha Stadium.
Kaua‘i High took victories of 6-3 and 8-2 over the Menehune, relying on its pitchers. Evan Batalucco who gave up just three hits in the day’s opener. Kapone Sullivan took the mound in the nightcap and struck out 12 Menehune hitters through six innings of work. He also allowed three hits.
During the 6-3 win, the Raiders marked three hits toward its six runs. Austin Renaud, Radon Sebastian and Jordan Andres topped the hitting with an RBI apiece.
Waimea marked three hits for its trio of scores, topped by Noah Delanoza driving in two RBI.
During the 8-2 victory, the Raiders piled up five hits, led by Zeke Bukoski whacking a triple. Joshua Rego marked a single with two RBI, and Renaud scored twice and marked an RBI.
Robbie Correa led the Menehune in the nightcap by scoring once and marking an RBI on a double. Zyden Vea marked an RBI on his hit.
Kapa‘a High completed its double-header series against Island School on Saturday morning, April 15, 2023, with a 4-1 edge behind the pitching of Shayden Yamaguchi, who allowed three Voyager bangs, one of which resulted in Island School’s sole run.
Warrior catcher Makoa Chong had the hot bat for Kapa‘a with a double. Kapa‘a batters contributing to the Warriors’ four hits in the contest included Rylan Yamaguchi, Kyrin Ibaan and Bob Manintin.
Earlier in the week, the Warriors were 8-0 winners over Island School on Thursday, April 13, 2023, the early start time being allowed to accommodate school proms that were held on Saturday, April 15, 2023.
With the wins, Kapa‘a sits at 7-3 in the KIF standings. Waimea is at 4-7, followed by Island School at 0-10.
Kaua‘i High next meets Island School on Friday, April 21, 2023, for a double-header at Vidinha Stadium, starting at 4 p.m.
Kapa‘a High will experience a triple-header on Saturday, April 22, 2023, when it travels to Cook Field to meet host Waimea.
The junior varsity contest starts at 8 a.m. with a two-hour time limit contest, followed by a double-header varsity meeting.
