Congratulations to Breeze Pavao, of Halau Ka Lei Mokihana O Leina‘ala, on getting the first runner-up (second place) in the Miss Aloha Hula competition at the 60th Merrie Monarch Festival (did Karin Panui and Mailelani’s go to participate?) in Hilo, Hawai‘i Island … mahalo, sponsors for allowing KFVE to broadcast the competition, live!

This year’s competition was totally tough, Breeze getting second place by just four points (1,144 points to the winner’s 1,148 points), and holding off the third place challenger by just one point! OK, as Ron Wood would say, moving forward … good luck, Kumu Hula Leina‘ala Pavao Jardin and the halau (Coach Bryan Aiwohi was home coaching the Warriors baseball team!) on the kahiko (takes place, Friday night) and the ‘auana phases (Saturday night) …and, mahalo again, KFVE so we could watch the proceedings, live!
Back at home, Coach Dave Walker and the West Kaua‘i Rotary Club hosted the longest-running Rotary Track and Field Meet on Saturday at Vidinha Stadium (are all the repairs going to be done in time for Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation football games, and the endangered seabird season?).
