Anthony Sentes
Our beloved and cherished Anthony Sentes (Tony) passed peacefully on the first day of Spring March 20, 2023. He was 68 years old.
Anthony was born in British Columbia, Canada. He enjoyed the simple life of running around the wilderness of BC with his 3 older brothers and little sister.
He moved to Southern California with his family and enjoyed playing sandlot baseball every day. Anthony had the loudest whistle in the neighborhood.
He graduated in Orange County as his dad worked his way up from being a truck driver to Vice President of Bell Brand Foods. Anthony joined the Army and became a Green Beret. As his brother Pat said “he wouldn’t jump off the high school high dive and ended up jumping out of C-130 airplanes.”
After he got back he moved to Kaua‘i in 1976 with his mom and dad and sister and joined his 3 older brothers. His dad invested in his brother Franks woodworking business.
They would haul giant logs back to the warehouse in Kekaha and cut and saw and sand picture frames all day.
After work Anthony, his dad, 3 brothers and sister would jump in their small boat and head up the westside coastline fishing for tuna for dinner.
They kept an eye on the Kekaha sugar mill smoke stack as the bird piles would lure them out further out to sea.
He married Djuna and they had their beautiful children Shane and Malissa. After Djuna and the children moved back to the mainland, Anthony married Ruby and helped her raise her children.
Together they had a lovely life. Ruby was always by his side. As his brother Pat said “Anthony was dealt some bad cards in life.” He struggled with multiple sclerosis for decades.
With Ruby’s constant love and care, the 3rd floor nurses at Wilcox Long Term Care and Garden Island Rehab Center, his faith in Jehovah and that ever present whistle, Anthony had an amazing will to live, love and laugh. “There’s a better home awaiting, in the sky Lord, in the sky.” (Ada R. Habershon). May you be running and laughing and whistling your way across heaven and the universe Anthony with your beloved family.
Anthony was preceded in death by his loving father and mother, Frank and Joy Sentes, his daughter Jennifer, his older brothers Larry and Frank Sentes, his brother-in-law Carl Anderson, his nephew and niece Aaron and Lauren Sentes, his nephew-in-law Damon Martori, his first wife Djuna and his step-daughter Mary Jane Young.
He is survived by his wife Ruby and step kids Thurman, Tammy, Amy, Jennifer, Bonnie and Christopher, his son Shane ( Ashley ), his daughter Malissa (Garret and grandson Wyatt) and 27 step-grandkids. His brother Pat (Camille), his sister Pam Anderson and the many nieces and nephews.
A military service is to be announced for this summer. Forever Loving Anthony.
