LIHU‘E — Aaron Yamasato, the founder of Comic Con on Kaua‘i, announced the latest special guest to the Comic Con2 is actor Ban Daisuke, more commonly known as Kikaida.
“We’re super happy and excited that Kikaida will be returning to Kaua‘i. JN Productions and Generation Kikaida recently stopped doing their big Kikaida events on O‘ahu,” Yamasato said.
“Fans like myself stood in line for more than four hours at the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawai‘i on O‘ahu to get his autograph. We feel very honored that he’s looking forward to coming back to Kaua‘i Comic Con. Kikaida is coming to us on Kaua‘i! Wow!”
Kikaida will be joined by other guest stars, including teen dancing star Nicolei Laeno, Ming Chen and the Comic Book Men, and more on April 8 at Comic Con2 at the Royal Sonesta Kaua‘i Resort Lihu‘e ballroom from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
“It’s interesting that April 8 is Buddha Day (known in Japan as Hanamatsuri),” Yamasato said. “And the next day, April 9, is Easter Sunday. Wow!”
Committee organizers said online ticket sales have already closed down with more than 500 sold. People wanting to share in the excitement and fun of Comic Con2 are able to purchase admission at the door the day of the show.
“Attendees can expect to see a wide variety of vendors selling comics, collectibles, art, and other cool merchandise,” Yamasato said. “Additionally, attendees can enjoy live performances from Console, a dynamic rock band known for their live video game music, and the electrifying sounds of professional violinist Kimberly Hope, whose latest album has been nominated for two Na Hoku Hanohano awards. She’ll be playing songs from popular movies, TV shows and video games.”
And the excitement continues as the convention will feature a cosplay contest presented by Night Darling, where attendees can show off their costumes and compete for prizes. Online registration for the cosplay contest for adults and kids divisions are available at kauaicomicconvention.com.
There will also be a gaming area where attendees can play their favorite tabletop and video games.
“This year’s convention is shaping up to be the best one, yet,” Yamasato said. “We can’t wait to see all the fans, cosplayers and creators who will be joining us.”
