LIHU‘E — The Hawai‘i State Federal Credit Union is holding six free financial education webinars in April and June, and is encouraging the public to register.
The credit union has been running financial seminars for about 10 years, but its CEO, Andrew Rosen, emphasized the importance of the workshops given current economic times.
“In light of recent financial news, financial education is even more important,” said Rosen in a statement.
“Whether it’s saving for college or planning for retirement, Hawai‘i State FCU is here to offer the guidance and tools that are needed to achieve those short- and long-term financial goals,” he said.
The courses are open to both members and nonmembers.
The first is Navigating Auto Buying, a 45-minute course that starts at 7 a.m. on April 5 and provides tips on leasing, buying, finance options, and other advice to help future car owners select a well-suited vehicle.
The second course, Money Management Through Transitions, begins at 10 a.m. on April 20, and will help people “assess the financial impact of a life transition, identify resources to help navigate through transitions, and how to get back on track,” according to the course description.
The third course, Understanding Credit Reports and Scores, starts at 9 a.m. on May 10, followed by Financial Decisions for Young Adults at 10 a.m. on May 18.
The fifth course, Hey, Homeowners! Discover Ways to Leverage Your Equity! begins at noon on May 18, and is advertised as an educational lecture on mortgages and loan information.
The sixth and final course, Identity Theft, begins at 10 a.m. on June 22, and is aimed at helping people avoid online scams.
