KAPA‘A — Waimea High School softball exploded for a pair of 8-run innings on Wednesday to pick up its third win, 21-2, over Kapa‘a High School at a Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation game at Kapa‘a High School softball field that marked the first night contest following the installation of lights.

Playing before an enthusiastic fan base on both sides of the fence, Waimea collected 13 hits, led by lead-off hitter Sianni Sakai, who marked her third Grand Slam in two games.
Sakai scored four times, including twice in the first inning, and finished with seven runs batted in, three runs scoring on her second inning triple.
Other notable Menehune hitters include Nakeisha Olivas, scoring twice and two RBIs on a double in the second inning, and a bunt single. Ryleah Torres scored twice, had two RBIs and a pair of singles. Kayla Prigge scored once, marked two RBIs, and pocketed a pair of singles.
Designated hitter Kayani Santos scored once, had an RBI, and scored once. Nia Pablo scored three times, marked an RBI on two singles.
Kapa‘a’s two runs came on five hits, led by a 2-run homer from Hailey Gibson in the first inning that drove in Sienna Yamashita, who got aboard with a triple. Gibson singled in the second frame, and a pair of singles from Lilinoe Kuhaulua-Leong accounted for the Kapa‘a bats.
Kapa‘a next hosts Kaua‘i High School on Saturday with the first pitch of the doubleheader going off at 10 a.m. The second game follows 30 minutes after the end of the first contest.
