Congratulations, Principal Jason Yoshida, the King Kaumuali‘i Elementary School staff and the East Kaua‘i Lions Club on a great spaghetti plate event! Roy Nishida said they couldn’t do it without the help of the Wailua Meat Co., which donated more than 200 pounds of beef for the sauce, the Kaua‘i Kookie bakery, which did all the work with the garlic bread, and the EK Lions Club incoming President Crystal Bargayo, who footed the bill for the paper goods, and the EK Lions who took care of the corn and water. Guy Higa had all those Service Rentals coolers for the water, and Stephen Fujii was going crazy collating all those tickets. Kaua‘i Police Department Chief Todd Raybuck said the event reminded him of the fun and service from the Pastors, Police, and Platters event during the pandemic.

Kudos, too, to Dennis Brown (he’s the original Big Brother) and the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kaua‘i ‘ohana on the return of the sold out Bowl for Kids’ Sake fundraising bowling tournament, where Coach Todd Ozaki was part of the new Mayor Derek S.K. Kawakami and Friends team along with Kaleo Carvalho and the student substitute Reiko Matsuyama, the county director of finance. DJ Marv De Vera was double-booked, so mahalo, Kaimana Kuahiwinui, for stepping up to the plate.
OK, this weekend starts Fitness Week at Kalena Park in Lihu‘e, beginning Saturday when Tommy Noyes and the Bikes on Rice gang ride in and out of Kalena Park, coinciding with the Downtown Lihu‘e Night Market. The week continues through March 18 with all kinds of free activities, including a pickleball clinic, the Healthy Half Mile Walking Group, yoga, fitness workouts, and even an animal dance party by the Girl Scouts (did you get your GS cookies yet? They’ve already run out of raspberry rally online).
