New Year’s celebrations bring along a string of other milestone events like getting to know your Girl Scouts so you can order your year’s stash of Girl Scout Cookies (Thin Mints stored in freezers are super snacks!). Angela Hoover, the Kaua‘i Girl Scout coordinator, said booth sales start Feb. 17 and continue until the end of March, or until supplies run out … another reason to order ahead from your local Girl Scout.

Chinese New Year is knocking on the door, too. This year is the year of the Rabbit that according to the lunar calendar, falls on Jan. 22 with the new moon. Watch for the Lunar New Year celebrations taking place at the Kukui Grove Center, and The Shops at Kukui‘ula, and other shopping centers island-wide.
Lourdes Torres of Sustainable Boost is also bringing the Three Kings Day festivities to the Kinipopo Shopping Village, when she hosts her first gathering that honors Kaua‘i County Council members Felicia Cowden, Billy DeCosta, Michael from Passion Bakery, Kaua‘i High School teacher Greg Anderson, and Pastor Bruce of the Calvary Chapel in Lihu‘e. Kudos, too Lourdes, on getting Sustainable Boost set up in Puerto Rico!
More kudos to Bronwyn Kay, an OceanEcho fellow, who is starting a mural project with students from Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School to bring awareness about the importance of expanding, protecting and preserving marine-protected areas like the Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument!
