Mahalo golfers (Ben Hongo of Maui said the rain only helps with the drought conditions) for coming up with at least 10 scholarships for Lt. Col. Dan Rooney’s Folds of Honor program to help spouses and children of fallen or disabled military and, this year, first responders!
Mahalo, too, to those tree maintenance crews (yeah, I know, they’re supposed to keep the utility lines clear) for doing a good job that our roads were pretty clear of fallen trees, and we could’ve done worse in terms of power outages (mahalo for the pre-storm advice on preparedness, Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative). And mahalo, Elton Ushio and the Kaua‘i Emergency Management Agency, for doing all the backstage work so the island could get through the Kona low.
Mahalo, Chip Bahouth and all those hands at the Sheraton Kaua‘i Resort, especially project chairs Zoe Chock and Gavin Baker,on hosting more than 200 of the island’s kupuna (wow! Special event parking, too!) to lunch at the Po‘ipu property.
