PUHI — Jarrett Harris of Garden Isle Rehab &Nursing at Wilcox Medical Center said Thursday that there are enough ornaments created by the Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School After School Program that each of the 67 long-term residents can bring one into their own rooms.
“We have a big central Christmas tree,” Harris said. “We also have decorated trees in each of the landings. The ornaments will be used on those trees, and we have enough that each resident can have one in their rooms.”
The wooden and ceramic ornaments were created by the CKMS after-school students under Elias Gonzales and Arts and Crafts head Penny Young.
“The message is about giving,” Young said. “These students have created wonderful works of art through the year. Many of the pieces have gone home with them as their own special piece. We give to the long-term-care residents because this is their means of communicating with the outside world. Students need to learn about giving, not just receiving.”
The box of ornaments that Harris left the school with included a signed card from the CKMS After School Program students.
