KAPA‘A — Kapa‘a High School girls soccer made the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation girls soccer league interesting on Tuesday with a 3-1 win over Kaua‘i High School at the Mayor Bryan J. Baptiste Sports Complex.
“This just became more interesting,” said Kapa‘a Athletic Director Gregg Gonsalves, who was overseeing spectator admission and everything else connected with the contest in Kapa‘a. “They each won against each other.”
Playing without their head coach, the Raider girls jockeyed for advantage with the Kapa‘a Warriors until the 22nd minute when Kapa‘a’s Julia Durocher slipped through the Raider defense and hit the folds of the net past Raider goalkeeper Lohgan Hanna for the 1-0 halftime bulge.
Coming off the break, Mia Kaneakua-Inoshita struck early, netting a goal in the 42nd minute for a 2-0 advantage.
The Raiders maintained strong pressure by staying on offense, the effort paying off in the 48th minute when Kyrian Yamase snuck an assist from Aileah Villatora past Kapa‘a goalkeeper Kailee Gorospe.
The Warriors completed the win when Kaneakua-Inoshita iced the game in the 71st minute with a goal that came on a breakaway down the right wing.
No scores or information were available at press time for Island School girls versus Waimea High School at Hanapepe Stadium.
Kaua‘i High next hosts Waimea on Saturday at Vidinha Stadium, when the junior varsity boys kick off at 10 a.m. The Kapa‘a JV girls will kick off against Kaua‘i JV at 11:45 a.m., followed by the Waimea varsity boys tangling with the Red Raiders starting at 1:30 p.m. The Waimea varsity girls kick off against the Kaua‘i High girls starting at 3:30 p.m.
At Island School field on Saturday, the Kapa‘a boys will meet the Voyagers starting at 2 p.m., followed by the girls’ matchup starting at 4 p.m., both in varsity action.
