KAPA‘A — The results of Tuesday’s Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation boys soccer games sets up an interesting scenario for Saturday’s meetings.
Over at the Mayor Bryan J. Baptiste Sports Complex, the Kapa‘a boys walked off with a 6-1 win over Kaua‘i High, while the Island School boys played to an 8-1 win over the Waimea boys at Hanapepe Stadium.
Ignacio Elzardia netted a hat trick to lead the Voyagers to its win over the Menehune, who netted its sole goal from Jaiden Sams to prevent the shutout.
Voyager Sawyer Rogoff added a pair of scores, with Javin Hannessy, Mikey Melvin and Eddie Silliman each netting goals in the win.
Over in Kapa‘a, the Warriors struck first when Kaulia Shiroma found the net in the 20th minute to break the 0-0 deadlock where both Kaua‘i High and Kapa‘a jockeyed to adjust to each other.
During this first half jostling, Kaua‘i High’s Kelson Sam Fong fired from the left pocket to knot the contest at 1-1.
Kamalei Gonsalves answered three minutes later in the 37th minute to give the Warriors a 2-1 bulge at the half.
Adjusting to an environment where the Warriors would get a lot of touches against the Red Raiders, whose bench was empty of substitutes, Kapa‘a went on to score four more goals in the second half for the victory.
Zaiden MacDonald found the net in the 44th minute, Jaelon Hines scored in the 47th minute, Perez Omar got his goal in the 58th minute, and Bodie Moomaw, moving from the defensive side of the field, iced the win on his goal that came in the 73rd minute.
Both Kapa‘a and Island School boys are, following the Tuesday matches, 2-0 on their season that started on Dec. 10.
Kapa‘a will travel to the Island School campus on Saturday, when the boys match will kick off starting at 2 p.m., followed by the girls’ varsity game at 4 p.m.
The Waimea High teams travel to Vidinha Stadium to take on Kaua‘i High. The Waimea JV boys will open the day at 10 a.m., followed by the Kapa‘a JV girls meeting the Kaua‘i JV girls at 11:45 a.m. The Waimea and Kaua‘i varsity boys kick off at 1:30 p.m., followed by the Menehune varsity girls meeting the Red Raider wahine at 3:30 p.m.
