Linda lives with a physical disability and she receives aid from her service animal, who reminds her to take her medication and provides emotional support.
Linda was chronically homeless for four years until she received assistance from a permanent supportive housing program. She has been housed for over two years and will be looking for new housing as her lease is set to expire.
Linda lives on a fixed income and strives on being sustainable and independent. In order to help her with her move, she needs help in obtaining a vacuum, cleaning supplies and storage bins.
Through Christmas Eve, The Garden Island will share daily, front-page stories about families and individuals (we don’t use their real names) facing challenges and who would appreciate a little help.
The Christmas Fund is an avenue for everyone to provide that assistance. Donations are used by Zonta Club members to purchase gift certificates that are in turn distributed to families and individuals through social-service agencies.
Each donation is accounted for and recorded. There are no administrative costs involved, and money goes directly to provide for those in need of Christmas presents and groceries.

• Tom is living with mental health issues and his partner, Brenda, is helping him to cope. Both have had their fair share of being houseless.
Today, through the assistance and guidance of a permanent supportive housing program, both have been stably housed for two plus years. They continually work on being financially sustainable and support one another. Some cleaning supplies, clothing and towels will bring holiday cheer to Tom and Brenda.
• Stephanie and her daughter, Danette, were homeless for many years until they received housing assistance from a permanent supportive housing program.
Stephanie continually works hard to be clean and sober, but suffers from a mental health issue. She and her daughter live on a fixed income and keep their monthly expenses manageable. To bring joy to their Christmas, a gift of clothing and groceries will bring an enjoyable surprise to Stephanie and Danette.
