KAPA‘A — The county Department of Public Works and Grace Pacific LLC announced that portions of Mailihuna, Hau‘a‘ala and Kawaihau roads will be closed, and temporary detours will be put in place, from Monday, Dec. 12 to Friday, Dec. 30, weekdays, for continued construction of a new, five-way intersection shaped like a peanut.
KAPA‘A — The county Department of Public Works and Grace Pacific LLC announced that portions of Mailihuna, Hau‘a‘ala and Kawaihau roads will be closed, and temporary detours will be put in place, from Monday, Dec. 12 to Friday, Dec. 30, weekdays, for continued construction of a new, five-way intersection shaped like a peanut.
Over the next several weeks, traffic control configurations around the intersection will be changing as construction progresses. Various sections of the roundabout will require closing, and the detour routes will vary through each phase of construction.
Wailua
• A right-shoulder closure and narrowed lanes of Kuhio Highway are possible in the southbound direction between mile markers 5.7 and 6.7, in the vicinity of Leho Drive and the Kapa‘a bypass road, for the Kuhio Highway short-term improvements;
• An alternating closure of both lanes of Kuhio Highway in either direction is possible between Kuamo‘o Road and the Kapa‘a bypass road for Kuhio Highway Short-Term Improvements, from Monday through Friday, Dec. 12 to 16, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Northbound traffic will be detoured onto Papaloa Road. A single southbound lane will be open on Kuhio Highway between Kapa‘a bypass road and Kuamo‘o Road beginning at 8 a.m.
