On the West Side, kudos to the Rev. Tomo Hojo, Ralph Fujinaka and the West Kaua‘i Hongwanji Mission on the 25th anniversary celebration of the successful consolidation of the three West Side Buddhist temples as a hedge against declining membership and the ever-increasing costs of maintaining separate facilities.
Miss those Kaua‘i Christmas Parades since the retirement of Ralph, Flo Tazaki and others, but Laine Griffith and the Kalaheo School Sunshine Express continue the holiday tradition by visiting Kukui Grove Center in Lihu‘e on Thursday with a preview of the school’s student-based production, at 6:30 p.m. (what great dinner entertainment in the food court area).
Amy Chun’s jabong tree is going off, and Louise Nguyem of San Jose, California, got to enjoy some of that bounty when she and mom Naly got to the Pau Hana Market (they’re launching a Holiday Recipe Contest with applications available on Nov. 21) early (the market opens at 3 p.m.).
And, don’t forget — Saturday is the Kaua‘i Handworks (has it been 43 years already?) craft fair that opens from 8:30 a.m. at the Kaua‘i Veterans Center in Lihu‘e!
