Elsie Taeko Takata
Elsie Taeko Takata passed away in her sleep on April 29, 2021, at Wilcox Medical Center. She was born on May 19, 1933, in Hanama‘ulu. She was a very active ILWU member while employed at Kaua‘i Surf and later Westin Kaua‘i into her senior years.
She was preceded in death by her son Dayne Obatake, daughter-in-law Cheryl Lovell-Obatake, parents Asakichi and Taka Nakamoto, brothers Hajime “Jimmy” Nakamoto, Dyna “Haruo” Nakamoto, Richard “Masato” Nakamoto, Haruki “Dukie” Nakamoto and Wallace “Bull” Nakamoto, and sister Nancy “Namiko” Ishizaki.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Samuel (Sam) Takata, sons Jimmy Obatake, Randy (Apryle) Obatake and Alden (Anki) Takata, daughter Marlene (Earl) Morton, daughter-in-law Gwen Saiki, 17 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, sister Katherine “Kay” Higa of O‘ahu, and her beloved pet Kira.
A celebration of life is Saturday, Nov. 5, at Niumalu Canoe Club, on Kalapaki Beach (behind ABC Store), starting at noon. The family requests no koden (monetary gifts).
Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
