Florence ‘Babe’ Acain
Florence “Babe” Acain passed away on Sept. 19, 2022, at Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital, at the age of 88. She was a retired produce manager at Waimea Big Save.
She was preceded in death by husband Patricio Acain, parents Mariano Kuaron and Primitiva Amandurum Kuaron, sisters Rosella Alao and Consolacion Lowe and brother Clarito Kuaron.
She is survived by sons Patrick (Janet) Acain of Nevada, Aaron Acain (Marcia Hoffman) of Kekaha and Anthony (Gloria) Acain of Kekaha, daughter Alison (Dave) Gaertner of Texas, grandchildren Leanne (Jeff) Jarvis of California, Gage (Nicole) Acain of California, Shannon (Eric) Redmond of Pennsylvania, Kristen (Kevin) Resinto of Washington, Bruce (Rhonda) Gaertner of Utah, Kyle (Shannon) Gaertner of Texas, Kurt Gaertner of Texas, Anthony Acain Jr. (AJ) of Texas, Anson (Sarah) Acain of Kapa‘a and Adam Acain of Kekaha, great-grandchildren Kayli, Lexi, Riley, Talan, Lucianna, Eloisa, Zion, Hope (Jax) Anderson, Mariah (Justin) Daniels, Cameron (Maddie) Stanger, Keoni Gaertner, Alikai Gaertner, Lenore, Ramsey and Aniaiah Acain, great-great-grandchildren Aeris and Iyla, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A service is Saturday, Oct. 29, at the Sacred Hearts of Jesus & Mary Catholic Church in Waimea. Visitation is from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. followed by Mass at 10 a.m. Inurnment will follow at Kaua‘i Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe. The family requests aloha attire and welcomes flowers.

Janice Lee Josephson
Janice L. Josephson, 88, passed away peacefully of natural causes on Feb. 10, 2022. She was born March 20, 1933 in San Diego, the daughter of Theron Clayborn Lake and Loretta Carmelita (Nelson) Lake.
Janice had a very happy childhood and graduated from Point Loma High School. She enjoyed ice skating and working at the local radio station as a part-time DJ. She met and married Leigh Josephson on June 23, 1951. She joined Leigh in Hawai‘i, where he was stationed during the Korean War with the U.S. Navy. They raised five children together while both being employed at Iolani School in Honolulu.
Janice served in various positions at Iolani, as the bookstore manager, Alumni Office manager and as the Computer Lab supervisor, instructing computer basics to primary-aged children. She retired in 1989. After Leigh’s retirement from teaching in 1991 they moved to their Kaua‘i home in Wainiha/Ha‘ena.
Jan was an excellent partner to Leigh, whether it was following logging roads to remote lakes, streams and waterfalls in the Pacific Northwest or exploring and fishing the Northshore on a Hobie Cat. In those hard days after Hurricane ‘Iniki, she tackled the problem of rebuilding their Wainiha/Ha‘ena home with grit, spirit and optimism. Her love of adventure and cheerful, can-do attitude will be missed.
In addition to her parents, Janice was predeceased by sister Paulette Atwood and son Eric Josephson.
In addition to her beloved husband of 70 years Leigh, Janice is survived by daughters Lynne (Tom) Hill of Baker City, Oregon and Kristin (Otto) Baumgaertner of Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada, sons Leigh Josephson III of Honolulu and Leif (Silvia) Josephson of Schubelbach, Switzerland, sister Beverly Kishpaugh of Austin, Texas, and brother Larry Lake of Durango, Colorado, six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Rachel Sadae Watarai
Rachel Sadae Watarai, 72, passed away peacefully on Sept. 23, 2022. She was born on Sept. 24, 1949, in Honolulu, to Kenichi and Gladys Kurata.
Rachel has called Kaua‘i home for the last 30 years. She worked 36 years as an educator on O‘ahu and Kaua‘i, and retired from the state Department of Education as an administrator. She loved to travel and enjoyed the excitement and adventures with good friends and family. She will be missed dearly by many.
She is loved and will be missed by brothers Roy Kurata and Randall (Kathy) Kurata, sister Karen (Bo) Roldan, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Per her request, there will be no service.
Alicia A. Raco
Alicia A. Raco, 57, passed away at her home in Lihu‘e on Oct. 18, 2022. She was born on Oct. 8, 1965, in Waimea. She worked with her husband as an office manager at CR Design and Construction.
She was preceded in passing by parents Alberto and Ursula Andres.
She is survived by her loving husband Caven K. Raco, daughters Mackenzy and Taylor Raco, niece Brittany Armstrong, parents-in-law Charles T. and Bao Raco, sister-in-law Terry Raco, brother-in-law Chad Raco, nephew Treston (Kali‘a) Caberto-Raco, stepmother Feliza Andres, siblings Lisa Francisco, Alwin (Jeannie) Andres, Alex Andres, Aileen Andres, Adele (David) Riddarskjold, Joel (Shana) Andres and Allan (Roxanne) Andres.
A celebration of life is Wednesday, Oct. 26, at Immaculate Conception Church, with Mass at 10 a.m.

Justin Otto Kauakahi
Justin Otto Kauakahi passed away on Oct. 13, 2022, at the age of 28 at Wilcox Medical Center. He was born on July 24, 1994, in Lihu‘e.
He was a talented carpenter and free diver. Animals and kids loved him. He was known for his giving heart and listening ear. He left behind his dog Hanapa‘a.
He was preceded in death by father Keive Kauakahi, sister Tabitha Kauakahi and brother Silas Kauakahi.
He is survived by mother Oeita Kauakahi, brother Keive Kauakahi II, sisters Sommer, Monica and Chloe Kauakahi, and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephew, cousins and friends.
Friends may visit the family on Thursday, Oct. 27, at Lihu‘e Cemetery, with services beginning at 11 a.m. A celebration of life will follow at Lydgate Park starting at 2 p.m. in the field below the soccer field.

Dailinda M. Cabral, 77, of Seattle, passed away on Oct. 1, 2022, in Washington. She was born on Aug. 12, 1945, in Kahalu‘u.
She was preceded in death by parents Candido Manatad Sr. and Incarnation Manatad, siblings Gospel, Valerio, Maria, Florita, Candido Jr. and Veronica.
She is survived by children Duane (Cathie) Silva, Lynn (Charles) Talbert and Joanna (Wayne) Duran, grandchildren Bryson Silva, Anya Korma, Rustyn Fu, Ashley Mondt, Ryden Fu, Dylan Silva, Alex Mondt, Cooper Sides, Brandon Agrade and Travis Agrade, great-grandchildren Kaylee Jinchu, Alexander and Hailey Lynn, siblings Laura Kapule of Seattle, Floripis Cabanilla of Honolulu, Sim (Calvin) Soares of Honolulu, Isadora (Lincoln) Ching of Kapaa, Lucia Bernard of Seattle, Dina Manatad of Seattle and Carlos Manatad of Seattle, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A service is Thursday, Oct. 27, at St. Catherine Church in Kapa‘a. Visitation is from 9 a.m., eulogy at 9:45 a.m., services at 10 a.m. and reception to follow. The family requests casual attire.
Lt. Charles Augustus Naihe
Lt. Charles Augustus Naihe (retired), 66, passed away peacefully at his Wailua home on Friday, Sept. 30, 2022, surrounded by his family. Known to all as Charlie, he was born in Honolulu on June 23, 1956, to Edward Sr. and Irene Kahalelaukoa (Baker) Naihe, and raised in Waimanalo. He was married to Terry Ashbaker (divorced, deceased), Marilyn Aniu (divorced), Dianne McCarthy (deceased) and Cynthia Tucker (estranged).
He is survived by children Moani (Lee) Fields, Moana (Mark) Piena, Maria (M. Paul) Waite, Maile (David) Lindsay, Makana (Scott) Bacon, Mahi‘ai Naihe, Lawai‘a Naihe, Ihe (Emma) Naihe and Pahoa (Chelsea) Naihe, 23 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, brothers Edward (Karen) Naihe, Newman (Priscilla) Naihe, Cy Naihe, Lane “Bula” Naihe and Kamuela Naihe, sisters Debra Flores, Valerie (Richard) Medina and Jade (Young) Bedell, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A funeral service is Saturday, Dec. 17, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 4561 Ohia St., Kapa‘a, at 11 a.m. Visitation begins at 9 a.m.
Mikiko Muraoka
Mikiko Muraoka passed away on Sept. 29, 2022, in Waimea at the age of 98. She was born on Nov. 7, 1923, in Ko‘olau. She was a former owner of Echo Lanes Lounge in ‘Ele‘ele.
She was preceded in death by husband Noboru Muraoka, daughters Lucile Horita, Brenda Honda and Priscilla Nitta, brother Kikuo Fukuda and sister Tsuyuko Yamane.
She is survived by sons Calvin (Jane) Muraoka of Hanapepe and Leighton (Lisa) Muraoka of ‘Ele‘ele, sons-in-law Edwin Horita of Lawa‘i and Norman Nitta of Kalaheo, daughter Sheila (Gerry) Tamura of Hilo, 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, brother Allen (Janet) Fukuda of Maui, sister Mitsuko Ikeda of Hilo, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A private service was held. The family requests no koden (gifts).

Ruth Leilani (Kailikini) Naumu
Ruth Leilani (Kailikini) Naumu, of Lihu‘e, passed away at home on Aug. 26, 2022. She was born on Nov. 27, 1953, in Waimea.
She was preceded in death by her husband Dwayne Naumu, son Garrett Naumu, parents Abraham and Ermine Kailikini Sr. and Janet and Wallace Naumu, and siblings Abraham Kailikini Jr. and Pamela and Ernest Dow.
She is survived by children Tiffany (Debbie) Naumu, Trisha Naumu and Krystal (Daren) Naumu, hanai son Micah Paglinawan, sister Cynthia (Kailikini) Blair, brothers-in-law Darryl (Caroline) Naumu and Glenn Naumu, grandchildren Brenden, Aleajah and Taytra Naumu and Kelcie and Dayna Ragasa, and great- grandchild Camille Ambrose.
A celebration of life is Saturday, Oct. 29, at the Kailikini family residence, 5010 Awawa Rd. Hanapepe, beginning at 11 a.m.

Alfred W. Reis passed away on Sept. 29, 2022, at home at the age of 98. He was born on June 26, 1924.
He was preceded in death by wife Margaret Reis, son Alvin Reis, parents William and Mary Reis, sister Mabel Reis and brothers Adam Reis and Harry Reis.

Sione Kami Taufatofua
Sione Kami Taufatofua passed away on Sept. 9, 2022, in San Diego, at the age of 52. He was born on June 30, 1970, in Hihifo, Ha’apai Tonga. He was a mason and owner of Taufatofua Construction.
He was preceded in death by father Uili Teili Taufatofua and grandson Kainoa Taufatofua.
He is survived by wife Celena Taufatofua, sons Ueili (Erika) Taufatofua and Sione (Kiley) Taufatofua, daughters Melaea Taufatofua and Celena “Lena-Mae” Taufatofua, brothers-in-law/hanai sons Soane Latuniupulu and Paul Latuniupulu, mother Kesaia Feifai Taufatofua, brothers Ha’unga (Denise) Taufatofua and Uili Vea (Chantelle) Taufatofua, sisters Siuki Haileni (Siuela) Peleketi, Melaea (Etuini) Pongi Vaka and Langi Tu’ulilo (Tevita) Tuamoheloa and grandchildren Sione Teili Taufatofua, Isaleilia Taufatofua and Selalea’aelopa Taufatofua.
