Erosion at Wailua Beach has forced the state Department of Transportation to place sandbags to protect Kuhio Highway. A new sand-saver project aims to rebuild the beach in the area the state is widening the highway near the former Coco Palms Resort.

Coastal erosion has continued to eat away at ‘Aliomanu Road, narrowing the beach avenue to a single lane in some places. At least one home has been claimed by the erosion.

LIHU‘E — A groundbreaking plan aimed at regulating construction based on future sea level rise projections will now dictate the way in which the building industry moves forward on Kaua‘i.
