LIHU‘E — The Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation announced its air rifle All-Stars on Tuesday that includes the Kaua‘i High School boys team and the Waimea High School girls team as KIF champions.
Also included as All-Stars are the top two individual sharp shooters for boys and girls, who will be heading to the Civilian Marksmanship Program Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association Air Riflery state competition on Oct. 25 at the Neal Blaisdell Center in Honolulu.
Included on the Kaua‘i High boys team are Jacob Andres with a 255.75 point average over the course of the six-week KIF season, Jordan Andres with a 254.25 point average, Kyler Konishi with a 250.75 point average, and Andrew Sadamitsu with a 252 point average, out of a possible 300 score (100 points each on prone, kneeling and standing positions).
“Jacob Andres is the KIF top male marksman who remains with the team,” said Marcela Hornos, who has been assisting Sean Magoun with the scoring administrative duty. “Kelley Gabriel, the Island School’s top marksman with a 243.25 point average, will represent the KIF at the state competition.”
Joining Gabriel, Hekili Dizol of Kaua‘i High will also represent the KIF with a 237.5 point average.
For the girls, the Waimea High team includes Trislyn Martinez with a 253 point average, Brielle Lo with a 245 point average, Rochelle Uri with a 253 point average and Leann Saniatan with a 248.5 point average.
“Kapa‘a High School’s Ella Anderson is the top KIF female sharpshooter,” Hornos said. “With a 259.25 point average, she has by far outshot the league. Well deserved honor.”
Joining Anderson as an individualist is Kaua‘i High’s Logan Lagazo, who finished the season with a 241.75 point average.
“This season has gone by so fast,” Hornos said. “We have to admit that coming back out of retirement for two years has its perks. We had 51 athletes signed up, and 47 remained with us throughout the season. They remained as a team and supported one another and stuck together like a family. We had a great coaching staff and tremendous support from the families.”
