Saturday when she popped in at the Harvest Festival where the Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital crew was sizing, fitting and giving away free pumpkin-colored bicycle helmets and other items (Jackie Kanna said “Ma‘i” from Ma‘i Movement is the Hawaiian word for a woman’s period, and they met three young girls the Hawai‘i Health Systems Corporation Kaua‘i Region volunteers helped with information and the period packets they were distributing.

Lance Takase of Aloun Farms said Mayor Derek Kawakami was “sweating bullets” before having to leave for the U.S. Army National Guard Change of Command ceremony, and even state Senate President Ron Kouchi made a brief appearance. Outside the gate, Darline Rita Sarmento said gubernatorial candidate Duke Aiona (he’s coming to Waimea Monday for his town hall meeting on housing) wanted to come.
Ursline Munar of the Aloha Pacific Federal Credit Union Kekaha Branch thanked people for recognizing them as a credit union, and invited everyone to the International Credit Union Day (Kaua‘i Federal Credit Union is having a coloring contest) Thursday for some special hospitality like all the Kaua‘i’s credit unions.
OK, time to check the Pau Hana Market (free pumpkins at the rate of one per family next Monday!) at Kukui Grove Center in Lhu‘e to find out what the Kaua‘i Community College culinary department is planning for the Po‘ipu Food and Wine Festival demonstration coming up Wednesday at the pop-up farmers’ market at The Shops at Kukui‘ula that starts at 3:30 p.m. and goes to sunset (the sun is going down earlier and earlier as we approach winter).
