LIHU‘E — All of the Waimea High School scoring boys marksmen fired scores of 200-plus on Friday to lead the Menehune boys to a 324-point edge over the Island School marksmen during the most recent Kaua‘i Air Rifle matches contested at the Island School open field range, and at the Kapa‘a High School Bernice Hundley Gym.
The Menehune boys fired 1,472 points to the Voyager boys’ 1,438 led by Waimea high pointer Beau Furumoto, who fired a day’s 229 points compared to Island School’s Gabriel Kelley who finished with 254 points. That was just four points shy of the day’s highest scoring marksmen, Andrew Sadamitsu and Jordan Andres of Kaua‘i High School, who ended the day tied with 258 points apiece at the Bernice Hundley Gym.
Kaua‘i High School handily downed the Kapa‘a Warrior boys, who fielded just four scoring marksmen and finished with 820 points to Kaua‘i’s 1,958 points.
On the girls’ range, Kapa‘a High School’s Ella Anderson posted the day’s high point at 260 points, but the Warriors fell to Kaua‘i High School girls, 1,090 to 1,827 points, with the Red Raider ladies being led by Logan Lagazo who finished with 251 points.
Waimea’s Lee Saniatan led the Menehune wahine marksmen to 1,860 points to finish with the day’s top team scoring, and a sizeable lead over Island School who finished with 1,050 points led by the high pointing of Kaili Kaui at 223 points, a point ahead of Annie Harris who carded a day’s 222 points.
The next KIF air rifle matches take place on Friday when Kaua‘i High School will travel to the Waimea High School range, and Island School travels to the Bernice Hundley Gym to visit Kapa‘a. First shots go off at 4 p.m.
