HENDERSON, Nev. — Charlene Tan of Wailua, a graduate of Kaua‘i High School, recently received a $10,000, one-time scholarship at the Roseman University of Health Sciences Colleges of Pharmacy and Nursing.
HENDERSON, Nev. — Charlene Tan of Wailua, a graduate of Kaua‘i High School, recently received a $10,000, one-time scholarship at the Roseman University of Health Sciences Colleges of Pharmacy and Nursing.
She is one of nine students to receive a 2022 Hero Scholarship, funded by the university in partnership with community sponsors and donors. She and the other winners were selected based on academic promise, financial need, community volunteerism and leadership skills.
Tan is a pre-pharmacy graduate of the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa, where she studied molecular biosciences and biotechnology. For more than 12 years, she volunteered with ABLE Special Needs Outreach, which paired her with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to initiate group-building activities.
Tan will earn her doctorate degree in pharmacy at Roseman’s Henderson, Nevada campus.
“In its second year, the Hero Scholars program was created during the COVID-19 pandemic to identify and reward future frontline health-care professionals who selflessly volunteer to help improve their communities,” said Renee Coffman, Ph.D., Roseman University’s president and co-founder, in a press release.
“We are grateful for our community partners who have joined us in nurturing these students who have demonstrated heroic attributes in their everyday lives.”
The Roseman University 2022 Hero Scholars program is funded through donations by The Valley Health System, Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada, Cure 4 The Kids Foundation, Steinberg Family Foundation, Las Vegas Aviators, Vegas Golden Knights and Henderson Silver Knights Foundations, Jon Moss and RBM Services and the Estate of Robert Stolman.
