LIHU‘E — The county Agency on Elderly Affairs is reminding the public to participate in two surveys that will help assess the needs of the county’s aging population.
The deadline to participate is Friday, Sept. 23.
“The findings of these surveys will shape and improve Hawai‘i’s programs and services to meet the needs of Hawai‘i’s older adults, persons with disabilities and their caregivers,” said Kealoha Takahashi, AEA executive.
“If you haven’t already done so, please take a few minutes to participate, as your needs help guide the decisions we make.”
The State Executive Office on Aging has developed two separate surveys to assess the needs of Hawai‘i older adults and/or persons with disabilities and Hawai‘i’s caregivers. The first survey, “Aging in Hawai‘i,” looks at issues faced by kupuna and tomorrow’s older adults. The second survey looks at issues faced by Hawai‘i’s caregivers.
Responses to all the surveys are strictly confidential, voluntary and anonymous. The information will help identify needs in communities and shape the development of Kaua‘i’s Area Plan on Aging 2023-2027. Each survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete.

The needs-assessment surveys are part of the development of the four-year Area Plan on Aging that covers the federal funding period of Oct. 1, 2023 to Sept. 30, 2027.
The Area Plan on Aging serves as a planning and compliance document which enables the county to receive federal funds under the Older Americans Act, through the Administration on Community Living and the State Executive Office on Aging.
The plan describes the older adult population on Kaua‘i and the approaches to develop a wide-ranging and coordinated system of services to promote the well-being of Kaua‘i’s older adults.
