“We have a lot of art,” said Renee Palmer, Kaua‘i Society of Artists president. “There are more than a hundred pieces. It’s going to be a really big show!”
Palmer was working with artist Carol Kouchi in setting up the series of “Wild Pig Primer,” one of three of her artworks accepted for the Art Kaua‘i 2022 show and sale that opens to the public from noon Saturday at the KSA gallery at Kukui Grove Center.
“This is the problems the wild pigs give me at my house,” Kouchi said. “Pig holes everywhere! The other pieces in the show is the ‘Yardman’s Chanchanko.’ I asked him to come help me with this installation, but he’s doing exactly what he’s doing on the chanchanko — whacking the Guinea grass.”
The third Kouchi piece is “Fantasizing.”
Kouchi, Palmer and other participating artists as well as the Art Kaua‘i 2022 juror Robert Soppelsa, Ph.D., will be available during the opening reception Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the gallery.
Art Kaua‘i 2022 will be on exhibit daily through Oct. 28 from noon to 6 p.m. Friday hours are noon to 7 p.m.
KSA board member and artist Lora Finelli dropped by the final day of setup for a walk-thru with Palmer, who was busy helping Kouchi find the right pegboard hook for her pig series that featured a special hanging system.
“We Are One,” a self portrait, and “Nounou Forest” are two of Finelli’s creations accepted for the exhibit.
Artist Julijana Pinnock, who works at one of the Kukui Grove businesses, took advantage of her lunch hour Wednesday to check on the placement of three of her pieces — “Red Dirt Paradise,” “Kaua‘i Blues” and “Na Pali is a Dream” — accepted for the exhibit.
