The KFCC Scholarship Golf Tournament returned to an in-person event following a layoff because of the COVID-19 pandemic that featured a post-golf awards luncheon at the Lydgate Park main pavilion.
“We have a record number of golfers participating,” Ayonon said. “On top of that, we have a lot of people signed up for the luncheon at Lydgate Park. I guess having an early start in planning helps because people were waiting to do something after all the shutdowns because of the pandemic.”
Derrick Adams and Bobby Ayonon, co-chairs for the golf tournament, said the golf tournament is the Kaua‘i Filipino Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s only major fundraising event for its scholarship program.
“Over the past 19 years, this popular, fun and competitive golf tournament has raised more than $160,000 to benefit Kaua‘i students,” the co-chairs said. “These recipients eventually join the island’s workforce and give back to the community following their college education. During 2022, when we didn’t have the tournament because of the pandemic, the KFCC Foundation awarded $8,000 in scholarships to Kaua‘i students.”
