Happy birthday, Dorothy Higuchi who celebrated her 103rd birthday with about two dozen family and friends, Wednesday evening (they got almost all the “First Seating” at Kiibo restaurant (they were open, Kahu Jade Waialeale Battad…just so busy they forgot to turn on the sign, and the First Seating (how did Sean Doi manage to squeeze his family to a table?) was all gone.

Kudos, Kiibo ‘ohana, on taking care of not only Dorothy Higuchi, but Stan Tokunaga (Happy birthday, Stan!) who was celebrating his birthday with the Second Seating (Edwin Vea was reading the Rainbeau Jo menu while being one of the good customers that make the good restaurant even better)…and mahalo, Sandy Takaezu and ‘ohana for all the hospitality.
Mahalo, Janice Bond and the Hawaii State Teachers Association Retired educators on rising before the sun, Thursday to watch the Kaua‘i Police Department officers go to the top of Walmart for the return of the Cop on Top fundraiser for the Special Olympics Kaua‘i program. Marge Nakashima said the HSTA Retired have been helping Special Olympics for several years, and will return Saturday for another shift at the Cop on Top tent.
Shirley Simbre Medeiros (yes, she’s one of the candidates for the Kaua‘i County Council) said Na Poaikamanu O Kaua‘i (the kupuna who play in the Lihu‘e Plantation Building have a name!), translated to mean “the white birds that circle the island of Kaua‘i” will be doing a stint at the Safeway Hokulei Village store, Saturday to benefit the Hawai‘i Foodbank 32nd Annual Food Drive Day…what time, Shirley? Between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. like the seven Hawai‘i Foodbank Kaua‘i sites that will be doing in-person appearances.
