LIHU‘E — Ha‘ena resident Gregory Fejeran Jr., 59, received a five-year sentence Thursday for a January stabbing that left an O‘ahu man hospitalized.
Fifth Circuit Court Chief Judge Randal Valenciano ordered Fejeran to pay $31,688 in restitution to the victim and $1,154 to the Crime Victim Compensation Commission.
“Based on all the circumstances, I felt that it was a fair deal for my client,” said Lisa Arin, Fejeran’s defense attorney.
On Jan. 9 around 7 p.m., police responded to a reported stabbing at a Wainiha residence. Arriving on the scene, Kaua‘i Police Department and Kaua‘i Fire Department personnel found a 52-year-old O‘ahu man who had been stabbed multiple times.
The victim, later identified as Fejeren’s wife’s boyfriend, was transported to Wilcox Medical Center, then to The Queen’s Medical Center on O‘ahu, where his condition stabilized. Fejeran was arrested that day and initially charged with attempted murder. The charge was later reduced to assault in the second degree, to which he pleaded no contest in May.
In Fejeran’s version of events, he acted in self-defense, Arin said. According to his telling, Fejeran confronted the victim under the belief that the victim had been harming Fejeran’s children.
“Apparently it wasn’t well received, and he was attacked and defended himself from the attack,” said Arin. “He felt that his safety and life was threatened, so that prompted him to defend himself.”
Fejeran is currently being held at Kaua‘i Community Correctional Center.
