Happy Fourth of July, Kaua‘i (great job to the organizers of the Kekaha Family Fun Day — Pastor Darryl Kua of the Westside Christian Center Assembly of God was beyond the moon with all those happy people!), and Happy Canada Day (it was on July 3, the day before the Fourth of July), Bev Brody, Kaua‘i’s own Ms. Canada, who was helping with Play Streets!

Bev should’ve been at the Swim Kaua‘i Aquatics home meet at the YMCA pool — kudos, coach Curt Colby and all those SKA hands on a meet resembling more than a Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation event! — where Shaela Rideout did a chicken-skin rendition of “O Canada” on behalf of coach Mike Meldrum and the Killarney Swim Club (Dr. Monty Downs — mahalo, Kaua‘i Lifeguard Association for the contribution to Kaua‘i’s sole remaining swim club! — knew a few of them, too!) from Calgary, Canada.
The SKA swimmers got to participate in competitive swimming with not only the Canadian swimmers, but swimmers from Florida (aunty Becky Malapit has been doing aunty duty for a couple of days), Texas, and everywhere with their unique Kaua‘i-style aloha!
Mahalo, Stephanie Iona of Kekaha Agriculture, for taking care of Alec Sou of Aloun Farm (they had an Aloun Farm cap as part of the state Department of Education school wrap-up recently!) and Alec’s son Austin, who lost no time joining Wes Perreira and the Hawai‘i Foodbank Kaua‘i crew in distributing the nearly 200 back-to-school supplies packages. Did we get to try some of Becky Komaki’s ube malasadas from the West Kaua‘i United Methodist Church?
