Dana Romsdal got to shut down Goldsmiths Kaua‘i early enough Saturday so she and her sister Leigh (pronounced “lei”) could enjoy the 150th Anniversary of the King Kamehameha Day Celebration at the Royal Sonesta Kaua‘i Resort Lihu‘e, where Leigh could probably make lei with all those Kaua‘i Family and Community Education volunteers.

Did we get enough plumeria, Laurie Ho? Even Kaua‘i Ocean Discovery intern Abigail Seibel was able to make a lei and still get to work on time.
Kudos to all those organizing hands, including Lyah Kama-Drake, the Kaua‘i King Kamehameha Day commissioner, Chucky Boy Chock (his oli for the Royal Order of Kamehameha was really good) of the Kaua‘i Museum, and Paul Toner and his Royal Sonesta ‘ohana for doing such a great job with everyone, including those award-winning entertainers.
Dave Andersland and Laura Cristobal-Andersland were doing all kinds of juggling because the Aunty Lilikoi crew is on vacation and didn’t have enough people for the Kaua‘i Made Pop-Up at Kukui Grove Center in Lihu‘e. Dave took care of the Grove Farm Market until around lunch before meeting up with Laura at KGC (“At least, we’re not out in the sun,” Laura said), who had the Aunty Lilikoi stuff on her table.
OK, don’t forget. Tropic Care starts today from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. with clinics at Kapa‘a Middle School, Kaua‘i Community College and ‘Ele‘ele School for free physical exams, eye exams and optometry, and free dental exams and dentistry. And, The Kaua‘i Bus is free to all riders for the next two weeks!
