LIHUE — The county Department of Finance divisions of driver licensing and motor vehicle registration remind customers to make appointments for services, to avoid long waits.
“While we do accept walk-in customers, we can’t guarantee those customers will be serviced in a timely manner,” said Reiko Matsuyama, finance director.
She said the online appointment system has been working well, and she receives positive feedback from those who go through that process.
“It’s really the best way to get fast service and a more-pleasant experience at the DMV. For anyone who must come as a walk-in customer, please expect a longer wait time and know that our representatives are doing their best to help everyone,” she said in a press release.
Customers with appointments may check in up to 15 minutes early. Anyone more than five minutes late will have his or her appointment canceled and be considered a walk-in customer.
“Walk-in customers are served as time permits, with no guarantee for same-day service,” Matsuyama said in the press release said.
The divisions are open Monday to Friday from 8:45 a.m. to 4 p.m., except for county holidays, with a “kupuna hour” from 8 to 8:45 a.m. for customers aged 65 and older, with no appointments necessary.
